This will in all probability be my last car. That said my old man was at the Century Club with all his beans and buttons till the last 6 months of life. My thinking is drive as long as I can but have a car I can be a passenger in with comfort till the end.

Buy a 2-4 yr old Avalon, with low miles. Profit.

My 70 year old mother has two avalons. I'm not nearly 350# and i'm under 6'. (possibly also under 6" if i'm going against all the OT stereotypes). I do not fit in those cars, the roof hits my hear, i can see, it feels like its go kart low. My knees are in the steering wheel. My buddies accord is much more comfortable.

Dealer is a big issue.

Did you get yours in ATL? Extended warranty from a good dealer is good way to go according to DoI folks who track this stuff.

Do NOT buy an extended warranty from a dealer EVER.

Extended warranties from the OEM are the only ones you're not playing roulette with. Even with those, for most marques (VW Group products aside) there is a dealer out there selling them nationally at a deep discount. Flood Ford and Saccuci (sp?) Honda are two of many examples.

Wife just got one 2 months ago and loves it. I love the 600 miles per tank of gas. Comfort, looks, and Toyota knows hybrids. We went with black because of the black side panel that looks odd in any other color. Traded in her Avalon and haven’t looked back!

Nerds make good cars, terrible at sales.

Sales look good to sell bad cars!

I don't disagree, and all EVs are coming way down in MSRP. And all of 'em have depreciation that is unreal. The Taycans werecway overpriced to start with IMO.

And yes,Teslas affect the used market more, because there are more Teslas than anything else. Hertz dumping all of 'em didn't help value, either.

OP wasn't interested in an EV anyway, and I mentioned Taycan b/c Porsche, like Tesla, has deals to be had, if you're so inclined.

I do think the Taycan is better-looking than the Tesla, but that's a subjective opinion.

Hertz really only hurt the Model 3, and that was temporary. M3 was most of their fleet.

No argument that the Taycan looks a lot better, but it took a while for it to grow on me like the Model Y did as well. Prolly too low to the ground with seats too aggressive for the tree-fiddy lb OP though.

I’d drive that or Signia for my company car for sure. Toyota Crowns have a great reputation in Japan. All powertrains are the new Hybrid one, which gets excellent mpg.

It's a Toyota,

I stopped buying cars because of how low they are to the ground. If you have any trouble getting in and out, stick with a SUV

That is why I use sedans. The older you get the more important this becomes. As SUV's are not on truck chassis due to being unibody now, you want6 terra firma when exiting.

I do not want to deal with one of these step things

Why not something like the Corolla Cross hybrid? Roomier than a car, but low enough to the ground to safely get in and out.

We've owned 3 Avalons and loved them. Neighbor has a Crown and loves it.

That said, wife's new Highlander has a much better ride than an Avalon just a few years older. You can see better from the taller Highlander, and it's easier to get in/out if my back is screwed up.

If forced to buy a new car today, I would compare the Highlander and the Crown.

Genesis G80

My wife wants a sedan and this is what will we most probably end up with.

However, today's modern well equipped cars have many amenities that until recently only came in the luxury brand cars. Also, having just recently had knee problems, it was much easier to get in and out of my truck than my daughters car.

Benz. Mid size SUV is 60 or less. They are also extra wide inside. I'm thin, but that extra side room (and I'm talking 6-8 inches across the cabin) is well appreciated on a drive to a game or the casino. Handles like a dream and adequately powered. Good car line.

First one was from a local used car guy and second one was Certified Lexus…both in SC. Maybe I’m naive but didn’t buy a warranty on either because I put too many miles on the car too quickly back then. Still had factory warranty on both just in case something major happened.

A warranty on an ES is like buying a car cover for a vehicle you keep in your garage.

Also, I’m 6’5 and have enough headroom.

Hoss, I wonder if you're a might confused? That is a body on frame F250 in the pic in your post, it sits HIGH. Unibody SUVs pretty well all sit lower, many if not most of them will be easier to get out of than a car.

Most sedans have an H point height (the point where your legs bend at your pelvis when sitting) that is LOWER than the H point of your typical chair at home. When you get out of them, you have to raise your pelvis more than you would from a sitting position in most of the furniture in your house. This puts more strain on your knees for one.

Most unibody crossover SUVs have an H point that is either about the same or slightly above that of a dining room chair at your house. The whole point of crossovers when the genre originated with the 1990's Lexus RX300 was to build a vehicle that had some traits of body-on-frame truck-based SUVs (Ford Explorer, etc) of that era into a package that was a lot more friendly to older Americans and women, especially pregnant ones.

IMO A big aspect of the Tesla Model Y's global popularity is that they got the H point just right for older people. The door sill is quite low for a SUV, and the seats are easy to slide out of.

As I said earlier, you need to go test drive, and test drive some more, everything you're remotely interested in. Things like this will start to emerge for you. Speaking of test drives, add the Lexus NX and RX to your list to test drive. You can check them out back to back with the ES and LS (which is closest to what a Crown used to be in Japan, but possibly out of your price range). Note that to test drive a Tesla, you don't even need to talk to a person. Just set up the test drive on their website, download the app to your phone and create a sign-in, then go to where they park the test cars and use your phone to unlock and start it.

You can get a normal size SUV that doens't require help to get into. We traded our Accord for a CRV simply because of getting in and out of the vehicle was easier.
