Orleans Sheriff refusing to discuss looting arrest numbers "false narrative."

quote:NEW ORLEANS — Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman said Thursday morning that about 40 people had been arrested for looting in New Orleans after Hurricane Ida.
NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson has refused to discuss the number of looting arrests in New Orleans, saying that doing so would present a "false narrative."
Gusman clarified the number with WWL-TV's Sheba Turk after initially giving a broader number, 55 for various crimes including domestic violence and looting, in the days after the storm. City officials estimate that about half of New Orleans' 390,000 residents left the city before Ida struck the Louisiana coast Sunday afternoon.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell said in several post-storm press conferences that anti-looting measures were in place throughout the city, but didn't specify exactly what those were.
She pushed back on the idea that there was a significant amount of looting in the city at an early press conference, telling reporters the city was instead coming together.

There is no widespread looting; there is widespread empathy and community cooperation," she said.

No law and order to protect feelings.
Dangerous.
Dangerous.

The article says the NOPD superintendent refused to discuss them, and the Orleans Parish Sheriff gave the number.
Those are two different people from two different offices. The NOPD refused, not the Sheriff.

Those arrested for looting will be slapped on the wrist and turned loose. There’s no way that DA down there is going to prosecute those poor poor people.

Also important to note this article is days old, amd and the number of looting arrests continued to climb even as of yesterday.
Have to give credit to Gusman when it's due. He sent deputies all over the City even though the Superintendent of the NOPD (who reports to Latoya Cantrell) is responsible for NOLA law enforcement. Because Sheriff isn't bound by Consent Decree, they engaged in several vehicle pursuits that NOPD wouldn't, including one from Lakeview which yielded 4 stolen guns and 2 stolen cars.

This tells you all you need to know. These people actually believe that “giving an honest, round number based on facts” is the same as a “false narrative”.
They’ve unbelievably reached the point of flat-out calling the truth a lie

Sounds exactly like EBR. Sid not reporting to our idiot mayor is our only (somewhat) saving grace from complete lawlessness

All of this is to protect a demographic. Someone might want to know more about the looters and then someone else might notice a certain consistency and then yet another unbiased observer might see a correlation between looters and, well, a certain demographic.
Protecting her constituents.
Protecting her constituents.

Why are people upset that there is minimal looting going on? This is good news.

We cannot, will not, must not allow facts to support a false narrative. How Orwellian of him.
