People need to get to work somehow. Babies don’t feed themselves.

yeap, because those 14-16 year olds really are out there trying to work and buy used vehicles.

2022 YTD Carjacking = 43

Last week car jackings, attempted car jackings and auto theft involving assault (or some similar name) was at 53 combined

I wonder what that total is now

Does the carjacking total include attempted carjackings that were not successful?

Imagine what Mardi Gras will be like with all of those drunk easy targets…and the police completely overwhelmed.

I believe OP was trying to do some high level correlation, which is a bit misleading but not entirely incorrect.

8 at this point in 2021, 218 murders in total.

19 at this point (over 2.3x increase) in 2022 would be ~517 if the trend continues.

43 is less than last weeks combined total so unless cars are getting unjacked it does not include attempted

Even more alarming is the decline in prosecution rate.

That’s what happens when the city elects a District Attorney that’s under federal indictment. Certain major cities across this country are just about past the point of no return and New Orleans is one of them.

I take it the incident on Feret St would qualify as a shooting...

I had a relative that was victim of attempted carjacking on Magazine and Peniston two weeks ago. He couldn't dig the keys out of his pockets fast enough so he panicked and ran off with the keys.

What time of day was it?

Carjackers didn't chase or shoot at him?

"The judges typically had access to a defendant's arrest history through the National Crime Information Center, but their access has been down since at least December. Pittman says they're trying to get it back."

TP Reporter Matt Sledge

"Judges are saying that there were 10 jury trials in 2021. FWIW I think it was fewer than that. My count was 4."

"The judges don't have a number for how many people actually left jail because of blown deadlines. They also don't have a breakdown of how many of these cases involved violent crime accusations."

He was at a gas station… He had just finished pumping gas and went to go throw something away in a nearby trashcan. When he came back, some dude was in the drivers seat. He showed my relative a gun that he was holding on his lap but it wasn't pointing at my relative and asked for the keys. The keys were in his pants or hoodie but he couldn't find them quick so he took off. The dude then ran out of the car and got into a nearby car that was waiting and they sped off.

Honestly 29 arrests on 256 calls for car jacking probably would correlate to an overwhelming majority, even if a huge number never have enough evidence to tie to those individuals in a court case

I’m also in the attempted category this year, unfortunately.

Was told to get out of the car, and respectfully declined via gas pedal to the floor.

Uhh, even the crunchiest types dont want violent crime not prosecuted.

Drug Felony went from 11% refusal to 72% refusal.
Drug possession from 10% refusal to 80% refusal.

Good.

Are the vehicles generally found within a few days or sent to some chop shop? Otherwise what's the motivation? Just strip it in a more controlled environment?
