Tourism provides tax dollars that don't do jack shite of good and minimum wage jobs. I've never understood the boner for it on here.

Yep, the city needs more industry with high paying jobs. We just sold a shotgun house in mid-city to a young software programmer for $310k. He had a big down-payment and didn't blink at the price. Not many buyers like that in the service industry.

Warped tour and something else, cant remember the name.
If you dont think those events cause people to spend money in new orleans than you are crazy.

Posted on 6/8/17 at 9:19 am to rocket31

Wasn't Sum 41 one of the headliners at the Warped Tour last year? I don't think local crime is the reason it's cancelled

Leon "lets lock up non-violent drug offenders for 20 years" Cannizzaro is grand standing. Mitch is a bitch and his policies are shite, but to say Leon hasn't played a role is laughable. I wonder how many of these violent criminals are repeat offenders (90% + is my guess). To me, they seemingly move through a revolving door in and out of jail. If Leon wasnt pulling the "I'm tough on drugs" political card, then there would be long term space for these assholes. That would mean, though, that the sheriff would have a tougher job managing these POS. Why work harder for the same amount of money. Non-violent drug offenders are typically easy to manage. To me, these shitty policies by him and the mayor have created the shite storm that is crime in Nola. frick them, and as of now, frick visiting that place.

By all means then NOLA must be a thriving economy for white collar workers

Just because bubba from the oil change shack and your friends at the hunting camp don't want to come to Nola, doesn't mean that people from all over the world are going to stop coming.
10.5 million visited last year. More will visit this year. Then in 2018 there are some additional major events (NCAA championships, etc) and it's the cities 300th birthday.
With that said, I will acknowledge that Mitchie boys little statue fiasco probably has hurt a little with the local tourist not coming and if they don't get a hold of this latest crime uptick, it could hurt Nola in the long run.

I believe an aggressive enforcement strategy against violent criminals is a full-time job
let's remember this is the same a-hole who used his office to charge PDO investigators with bullshite felonies to intimidate the PDO
let's also remember his definition of "aggressive enforcement" includes creating fake, illegal subpoenas to threaten witnesses into testifying
