Again, not going to pretend to know. That's not my job.

However, you asserted that people have their heads in the sand, and that's just not true.

Did I say they are?

I'm not pretending to have answers to things that I don't. That doesn't mean I don't recognize that there are problems within this city.

Could it be a lack of jobs available? Crime?

Could be.

I know the shitty leadership of the state and the city wasn't going to be able to do anything to help.
I had a good feeling a few years ago that with so much investments that had been made in the city and all of the new development that the real estate pricing might actually start pushing the scum out of the city. The schools were actually doing better in a lot of situations since the orleans parish school board was out of the picture in many schools.
It just hasn't all come together. I guess the section 8 and projects just work to allow the thugs to stay and do what they do and the shitty criminal justice system doesn't help the situation either.

I actually think the shitty quality of the suburban schools hurts more than people think. Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, etc burbs are much nicer and have far better schools than those found in Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, etc. Businesses can tolerate poor inner city schools/quality of life if there are strong suburbs next door, not so much the case in New Orleans.

This has costs New Orleans millions in tourist dollars. No one I know would plan a vacation, conference, etc etc etc in that city now.

Sarcasm noted, but this is a major problem with the city's leadership. They see tourism as the cash cow, and as long as that money comes in, no need to rock the boat.

They're planning on overhauling bourbon street. Gotta love the priorities here: let's give out of towners a nicer street to piss and puke on, while Louisiana, Jackson, Jefferson, etc. enter their 4th or 5th year of ongoing construction.

The view that a healthy tourism industry is indicative of a healthy New Orleans needs to stop. Tourism doesn't bring in industry, blue collar jobs, or fill the office buildings downtown. It helps the restaurants and bars, and that's about it.

Pretty much. The tax dollars are generally wasted by incompetent government and the majority of jobs either depend on tips or are at around minimum wage.

Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Tammany,

Whoa there. One of these things is not like the others pal.

Show me where St. Tammany has "shitty" schools please. Oh, that's right, some of the highest ranked schools in the state are there along with some of the highest per capita income and lowest crime rate in the entire state. Don't try to make your argument with false facts.
