That is something I hear from a lot of people regarding many events in Nola. Every freaking thing seems like it gets bigger and more crowded every year.
Oh well.

Well it's true. I know people are still going to visit NOLA but to act like the crime rate isn't hurting tourism is retarded.

Crime probably won't hurt tourism because the average tourist isn't that tuned in to goings on in the city. Where it will hurt is business and residents fleeing. NOLA already saw a net loss of people leaving last year at a time when most urban cities are booming.

let's be clear about this
Nola is still getting a lot of transplants and has for the past couple years
the fact that they're getting an influx of outsiders and STILL have negative population grown is staggering

Shouldn't crime reducing tourism to any degree be something to be concerned over?

If the Wild West environment continues to progress it will.

Those transplants are not long term if I'd have to guess. I'd bet a lot of the people who have left over the past two years probably arrived in the city around the 09-12 time frame.

When did you start doing census work for the New Orleans area?

Probably as accurate in anything in your last post.

Should New Orleans be worried?
Not just yet, said Allison Plyer, executive director and chief demographer at The Data Center in New Orleans. Plyer points to the larger picture -- births continue to outpace deaths in Orleans Parish, and people continue to move here from abroad at a healthy clip.
Plyer noted the 759 more people who left the city in 2016 are a small slice of the overall population. And the number is an estimate. It takes several years of data to pinpoint a trend and the next official census count isn’t until 2020.
“We’ve focused on domestic migration because it’s an indicator of the returning population after the storm, but there are other drivers of population growth,” Plyer said.

How is that not a bad sign? Southern cities are booming all over and NOLA had a net loss re. moving in/out.

I wouldn't pretend to know. That's your thing.

Too uninformed to make a guess?
