There's really no excuse for that level of self-centeredness and we shouldn't make excuses for him. The behavior should be ridiculed mercilessly.
The whole idea of not fighting back should be ridiculed mercilessly as well.

You're right, who knows what you'd do in that situation. Im fairly certain though that i would never stand outside the door pushing it closed as people were begging and screaming for their life just on the other side. The guy went through something that I'll probably never experience, but what he did was absolutely horrible. A lot of times you hear stories about people doing things to save others in these situations. This guy did the complete opposite.

Good God, what the frick was he thinking? The shooter could have very well just fired through the fricking door, he would have been much safer to just run down the street and then more people might have survived as well.

You can't?? People died because of what he did...

He wasn't. He was reacting.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing that I would have held the door shut. I think I'd be afraid of him shooting me through the door. I'd run like shite once I got outside. But then again I've never been in this type of situation so I can't be totally sure what I'd do.

Maybe, he says he held the door for 10-15 seconds according to him to let the people around them get away.
He was reacting to an active shooter and made a decision, he also stopped and helped another person he didn't know so he doesn't seem to be completely focused on self preservation.
I'm not going to judge him from a keyboard for making a decision he thought would help.

I'm sure he will live with the guilt and hearing those voices the rest of his life.

People do some unexplainable and stupid things when in panic mode. Remember the plane that crash landed in the Hudson? Remember seeing all the passengers standing on the wings until it sunk?
It only got limited coverage but the reason the plane went down so fast was some guy panicked and fought past a flight attendant to open the rear doors. The ones over the wings were above the water line and the plane was floating just fine as people were getting out. This guy decided things weren't going fast enough and yanked the rear door (under the water line) open and flooded the rear of the plane causing it to sink quickly. Idiot.

so we agree then?
Possibly, and if so, barely. I can't judge him in whole because I only saw this one clip. But I can judge what I do know, and that is he made a terrible decision.
You gave no commentary to your "don't judge" stance, so it wasn't clear if there was total absolution in your statement.

generally I agree on not judging how some react.....but I'm not sure how in the frick you think holding an exit door shut is a good idea. A room your hiding in? Sure. An exit people are desperately seeking and is now causing an even bigger cluster frick? Well that guy is either completely retarded or a piece of shite.

"I'm not a hero." - Guy holding the door so people can't escape an active shooter.

If the terrorist put a gun to his head and told him he would spare his life if he sliced another hostage's throat, would you judge him then?

What a giant POS. He literally held people inside a place to be killed. Same as locking people inside a burning building IMHO.
I wonder how many lives are on his hands

It can be easily excusable if he couldn't hear the people, but my experience at bar doors says they were banging and yelling to get out and that even drunk you'd be able to tell the difference between a shooter's voice and someone trying to survive.
I also don't really understand how one guy held the door shut from multiple people pushing out?
