Germany! Rhineland-Palatinate is central to a bunch of stuff. Eurail your butt off, use the sleeper cars; go to bed in Wein and wake up in Zurich. Find your way to Munich in September...

I bet it will be one of the best times and memories of your life.

Fort Irwin (Halfway between LA and LV)

In the desert, it gets hot as balls there, and there is nothing to do in the immediate area. IMO, this shouldn't even be on your list.

Might as well go to Alaska if you're considering Camp Casey. Summers might be a bit warmer but it's cold as frick there. Hit -25 a few times when I was stationed there.

The best view of El Paso is when you are leaving for the final time ....

Alaska is probably bottom of the list. Dark and cold is no way to live plus I heard Fairbanks isn’t great for dating.

Fort Irwin also probably won’t be ranked. It’s in middle of nowhere

Fort Riley is close to KSU. So I heard Manhattan can be fun and good for going out/dating

Fort Bliss, I think El Paso is one of the larger cities on my list, hence I think it offers a lot

Korea is a 1 yr assignment guaranteed. Would be cool but could be culture shock

Germany is ideal. I’ve always wanted to go when I heard it was an option in the army. But they said it was likely an extra year. That’s a little disheartening when I was hoping to start residency soon as I’m in my 30s

I think you'll regret not taking that one year detour down the road just to get into residency a little earlier. I know it's a cliche but It's the journey, not the destination.

Do you have a Family or are you solo?

I have a friend who was an Army Doctor at Fort Liberty (Bragg). He never complained about it, but he had a family and wanted to be in US. His wife is a non Army MD. He was at Bragg and whatever base is in Dothan, AL but worked at NAS Pensacola. He liked Pensacola better but that was because it is close to Family in NOLA.

If solo, Germany gives you a lot of opportunities to take quick trips.

If you live on the West Side it's not bad actually. Just stay away from the East Side if you end up going there. Just makes it a bit of a commute to get on Post.

Unless it's going to be a career hit for you in some fashion, it will be more than worth it. As others mentioned, the chance to travel all over Europe is worth it alone. I visited Spain, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Poland, Croatia, Switzerland, Austria, and Czechia (Czech Republic). If they're still doing it, you get a four day weekend every month. If there's no holiday that month, USAREUR just picks a weekend to make a four day.

Not to mention you have the chance to bang German chicks.

For what it’s worth, when I was in, Germany was only an extra year if you bring family. So probably worth confirming with HRC that you would have to stay longer

enjoy it! I think the experience would be worth the extra year but it's your choice

It does. But like I said, it's the most rah-rah gung-ho Army installation by far.

I for one wanted nothing to do with that shite.

My sister and her husband lived off base in Spain. They had a villa with a gardener and a maid. Her husband would be gone a couple of months at a time and she'd pick a country, take off and explore.

Does her husband know she met this guy on the train?

For 1 year before starting a medical residency, 100% Korea.

Bliss when I was there was high crime with not a lot to do. Make sure you have a garage or your car will end up in Juarez. Bragg was OK, as people have said, it’s definitely the full-on Army experience. If you end up there, live north of post, up towards Lillington or further, and spend your off time in Raleigh, which is a cool town. Plus you’ve got the beach not too far to the east, and the mountains not too far to the west

That’s what i was thinking.. ive lived in other parts of Asia, but being in S Korea, right next door to that little madman dictator in N Korea with all his nukes and an itchy trigger finger ? Seems just a little too close for comfort, to me .
