Yeah, I was going to say, it's probably less effort than what it took to start this thread.

Do not use a travel agent to go to Cancun. Maybe if it was a complicated trip but not there. Cheap Caribbean.com is a site you may want to check out as well as Expedia that you can book and flight and hotel in one

I was coming here to say the same. Unless the OP knows or knows someone who knows an agent personally. U don't need them.

Travel agents do take installments in cash though. Meaning pay 40% first then later pay the balance. Everybody's situation is different. If the OP is a bit extended the agents can help here.

It's free to use a travel agent and sometimes they can get you better deals than you could get on your own. Also great if going to a country you aren't familiar with....they can have everything all planned out if you wish and usually have extensive knowledge of the area.

Seriously. People act like a travel agent brings nothing to the table

OP, I would go to Playa del Carmen instead of Cancun if I were you. I just got back 3 weeks ago. We stayed 2 nights at the Marriott Casa Magna in Cancun which was really nice if you want a recommendation, but the 3 nights in Playa were better.

Julie @ travel experts. Stayed at the Royal in Playa del Carmen off 5th ave twice. Travel agent was worth it when traveling with a group.

They get a kick back from the hotels, cruise lines, etc. It is my understanding that Sandals pays real good, thus the reason for travel agents driving around in cars wrapped with Sandals and Beaches logos...

Thank you. Its amazing how many people on the OT spew the same crap about how travel agents and real estate agents are worthless these days.

Thank you. We've looked at a few places in Playa del Carmen. Where did yall stay in Playa?

Thanks I'll give her a call. We will be with about 5 other couples so I guess we are in the same situation.

Just to clarify for everyone. We dont have to be in actual Cancun. Just that general area. Theres just so many towns in that general Cancun area that I figured itd be easier to find people that have stayed in/around Cancun than naming one or two particular towns. The resort we are staying at first is actually in Puerto Morelos.

You don't need an agent. Go stay at any of the hotels you want then go see the Chichen Itza ruins and Tulum. Great Places. Go snorkeling and market shop at Isla Mujeres. Usually the hotels have travel guides and people that will book stuff for you.
