"A Higher Call" is a great story from a different perspective.
Julie @ travel experts. Stayed at the Royal in Playa del Carmen off 5th ave twice. Travel agent was worth it when traveling with a group.
Yes, unlikely. I enjoy hearing tales of this generation. My grandfather was in the Bulge, but we never talked about it. He passed when I was much younger.

For book readers, there is a footnote towards the end of "Unbroken" that tells of an encounter a USAF pilot had with a Jap pilot. US pilot ejects and while parachuting, and a Jap pilot flies straight at him. Certain he was about to be strafed, but the Jap salutes him and flies off. The two connected after the war and became dear friends.
Jobu93 I know Fritz is a common German name, but any chance your vet was the same Fritz featured in "A Higher Call"? Great German pilot who had an incredible encounter with a USAF pilot. US pilot was told not to mention the occurrence in fear other pilots would think kindly of Germans. The US pilot wrote about his incident years after the war, and the German pilot happened to see the story. The two finally meet each other decades after the war to tell their stories to each other.
