Lol please. It will be fine. It’s near the affected area so those who are directly impacted can easily go.

I know this will sound nuts but what will this help if it all bottlenecks back to one less lane anyway? Kind of like why add a lane on I-10 between Lafayette and the Basin as it all bottlenecks back to two lanes?? We don't go through Baton Rouge enough to fully appreciate the issue.

I am nervous that my property may be one of these rentals near The Merchant.

The article said that the property owners have already been contacted.

You should be fine.

There will still be a bottleneck.

This widening of 1 lane is needed. But 7 years to complete if it's on time?

Put this same project in Dallas, Houston, or Memphis and it's done in a year. They will sign a contract where the penalty is 35K per day if not completed by a certain date. They will work day and night with an extra shift of workers between 9pm and 5am.

it's a mandatory part of the environmental phase before design and construction begins. to recieve federal money, which a project of this size absolutely needs, you have to have public meetings and give people the opportunity to speak up either in favor or in opposition of the project. all the comments are answered and published as public record.

however, i bet all the opinionated know-it-alls that could do the engineers' jobs better than them won't be anywhere in sight for these meetings. they'll run back to the computer and complain about everything on a message board instead.

BR Green already worried about a couple of trees, can't see the grid lock everyday. Plan to F up any progress.

looks like they're adding a lot more than a lane

You know there’s no way they do any work on a loop while this project is going on. Which means we’re looking at 2025 before they even do an evnviromental study on someone’s backyard for a loop.

and whose fault is that?

The entire city of Baton Rouge, those who live there, and the individuals they elected.

This attitude right here is why things don't get done. In the 90s, more people showed up at the public meetings who were against widening and more people showed up against a new bridge and therefore the elected officials demonstrated the apparent will of their constituents and did not fund either project. BRILLIANT!

I'm sure this will be as insightful as it is civil.

Just send the checks and fire up the bulldozers.

That's what I'm wondering. Wasn't that building on a historic register or something that caused troubles when Zee-Zees closed?

Did yall not read the article? Yes the Merchant will be bought by the state and likely demolished. It was the ONLY property listed to be bought by the state. The rest of them were generic business types and residential.

Or should I assume that if they need The Merchant and not Ivar's, that the interstate will not be widening in the direction of Ivar's?

My understanding was that the South side of 10 right there would be relatively unscathed. Ivars/Boltons, Jimmy Johns, Schlitz, etc. The extra lane is going to be built INSIDE the existing lanes there.

I did read it. That's why I asked the question about that building being protected three years ago and they couldn't touch the outside when Merchant wanted to renovate it, but apparently now it's up for demolition. I'm more curious than anything.

ETA: Hopefully both of the owners of the Merchant agree that they'll bring chicken skins and the brussels sprouts to their other restaurants because those are friggin' delicious.

Gotcha. All we know for certain now without a list is The Merchant and the Crappy convenience store on Myrtle. A poster in the other thread acknowledged it was his grandpappy's convenience store/butcher back in the day and is the one being bought.

Exactly what is planned.

Meeting was great and informative. Tons of interactive pictures, renderings and maps.

Pretty cool to see and since it’s all pretty much funded, bids will start in the not too distant future.

Glad I went.
