Op article: LSU has too many Confederates (named stuff)

Looks like the outrage police are on the move again. Bob Mann:

Seventy-eight years later, it's time to do the same with Raphael Semmes, whose name adorns one of LSU's most prominent streets. Semmes was a Confederate admiral and is the subject of a handful of Civil War histories for his exploits. He undoubtedly possessed a great military mind. He is no insignificant figure in Civil War history.
Semmes is not the only offensive name on an LSU building or street. As a group of my students learned after conducting a comprehensive inventory of LSU, four buildings and streets on campus are named after Confederates while only three are named for African-Americans.
Almost 20 years into the 21st Century, it's time for Semmes and the other Confederates honored on the LSU campus to go. They have no place on the buildings and streets of a public university that claims to value diversity and inclusion.

LSU has a long and proud history as a MILITARY school Bob Mann. Why don't you look that shite up while you are "researching?"
They may have been on the losing side but those individuals are part of the schools history. They should stay. Show me an African American (no frick that - BLACK) military veteran with ties to LSU and I will be glad to support them being honored on our campus.
fricking assholes, every one of these Progressive turds.

Where does the PMAC fall? Dude balled like he was at least part black.

Since it's a public university, the names will be changed soon. There is no good defense to keeping those names, which is why these whiny bitches attack things like this. It sucks.

I don't understand why people care

The Pistol does not deserve to be memorialized. He was appropriating black culture. He was also white and therefore a racist.

This is the most damning part of the article. They didn't even know these other guys were Confederate soldiers. They had to look it up to get offended by it. It's like they were bored one day and just decided to find ways to throw a hissy fit.

Holds the only job he can. Just another washed up spear carrier for democratic politicians.

Forget removing names, I say burn all the buildings with those names and see what's left.
Remove the Fighting Tigers from all sports teams.
Change the name from LSU to University of Louisiana Baton Rouge

Maybe we could name one after William Tecumseh Sherman and give equal honor to the Union General, who served as LSU’s first President.
Or in honor of a black man, Felix Labatut (Colonel-CSA)- State senator, soldier, and signer of Louisiana's declaration of secession.
Or name one in honor of Antoine Dubuclet, Jr, the Republican state treasurer of Louisiana from 1868 to 1878. He was Louisiana’s first black elected official. Except he owned dozens of slaves.

A few thoughts:
First, Robert Mann doesn’t need to be leading his students on his own crusades at LSU. I’m a LSU journalism grad and this is not what I think should be taught at the Mass Comm school.
Second, I don’t think any building should be named after ANYONE who fought in the Civil War, North or South. Both sides butchered their own people. End of story.
Third, I prefer not naming anything on campus after any individual, because all anyone focuses on these days is whatever that person did to offend or harm someone else. There are no universally good people.
Fourth, if we are going to name things after people, we do it the same way as everyone else: only if they give a bazillion dollars to LSU. And I’m not talking a relatively cheap gift like the Manship School took for its name. I’m talking $10 million minimum. Or pound sand. That’s what other universities do.
No free naming of anything. Ever.
That way if someone wonders... hey... how did that building get its name? The answer can be the same for everything... because that guy gave a metric frickton of money at LSU. You know, the only thing that REALLY matters here.
Lastly, Mann should stick to his original quest of improving the library. That’s a cause worth fighting for. But probably one he’s given up on. Just like everyone else.
