actually convince us that suicide is the only option and that it would make things better for all involved.
That is the key thing that gets people to do it. Believe me I've been there. When your brain tells you that the key to someone you love's happiness is you not being there, you have a major problem and need help.
If you ever think that seriously, you need help.

i also think a lot of these people have legit brain disorders that makes it difficult for them to process emotion and feeling
Could be. I've always felt most of these were behavioral but I'm no expert. I suppose there are legit sociopaths that aren't created by society though.
High achievers, perfectionists and people who are gifted have a higher incidence of suicide too.

Not every depressed person lays in bed all day. Besides, symptoms can come and go and there might be different activity levels over time.
The disconnect between one’s situation and one’s emotional state is really the heart of depression. Life can be going well but you still feel terrible. That disconnect can itself fuel further self-loathing and further spiral the sufferer into depression.

The thing people contemplating suicide either don’t or can’t fathom is that there is no guarantee that death will be better than what they are going through. None of us know for sure what is beyond that line. There could be worse pain that what’s on Earth.

Or terribly depressed and mentally ill to where good decisions were hard to come by? Maybe that? Any possibility there?

then she lists off a ton of things that seem to bring her joy
To be fair, these are things that are empty. They are not things that give you purpose or whatnot. This note is just plain sad. Depression is hard, no really joking about it.
I've had many friends commit suicide for various reasons. Depression is really shitty.

this right here, can't imagine it being so bad that you think this the best out, exception for me is, if I get a terminal illness and my diminished ql gets to the point to where it's diminishing the ql of those around me, I'll check out, already told the wife this

What a waste. I was expecting one of those Angry feminists with the purple hair
Not a beautiful woman like that

I have had depression symptoms since I was a young teenager. There was emotional abuse in my family. A Christian friend of mine told me yesterday that my lack of joy stems from the fact that I am “not saved.” If I were to pray and read the daily word of God that I would have joy and then have things like a girlfriend or wife. It isn’t that easy. And I don’t believe my friend.
I love God but being saved doesn’t cure someone of a mental illness. We all have issues to deal with and our thoughts are something we don’t choose. Life can be difficult when these depressing thoughts and beliefs are persistent. There needs to be more compassion towards others who deal with mental illnesses.

Only briefly mentioned in the note is that she lost her father. The article says she found her passion for nutrition while caring for a relative (presumably him) during a chronic illness. Being a caregiver takes a tremendous emotional toll.

Really is.
A lot of people don't have the intellectual capacity to understand that many suicide victims have a disease that has essentially tricked them into thinking the act of suicide is not selfish, but rather selfless. And that is the only way to alleviate not only the burden they feel, but the burden they feel they are to others.

I have been convinced of this, I was among those that previously viewed it an incredibly selfish act

If it's not asking too much, what got you to change your view? You don't have to answer if you don't want to.

But I will say respectfully, that what strikes me about that letter is the total lack of any recognition on her part that the point of life ( which is full of suffering) is to find MEANING.
