How are they so poor that they can't afford to get home?
I thought truck driving paid pretty well
Well it is December so a lot of idiots may have maxed out credit cards. But if you can't put $2000 on a credit card to get home then you really are poor especially if you are pulling in $50,000+ a year as a trucker and I know that number is low.
But to be fair, I think a lot of these guys end up across the country from where they live. So if you live in Mississippi and your trucking company goes out of business and you are in Oregon, I'm sure that gas bill to get the big rig home is pretty steep.

quote:Where the hell are these truckers? Because the ones on I-12 are always 5-10mph below the speed limit, then one trucker will get over into the left lane to pass another one and take 5+ miles to make the pass and get back over
All I want to know is does this mean truckers will start going faster or slower than the 85-90 mph they are hauling arse down the interstates now?

Bus tickets are pretty cheap so I looked it up, Seattle to Biloxi leaving tomorrow for $220, $198 if you hold out til Wednesday.

Does that mean the rates on lot lizards just dropped? Truckers out of work puts less disposable money on luxury services.
Not saying a lot lizards is a luxury but...

Probably less than JP pays for trillion dollar scams

You seem to know quite a bit about this subject. Are you a trucker?
I work in commercial insurance, mostly healthcare, but handle some large trucking accounts as well
It’s been a major talking point around the company today. Many of these large carriers are experiencing issues. Auto liability for them is increasing 200-300% in some cases

Market has been hungry this year. This is a possible scary economic indicator.

Keep the truck and loads til you get the money you are owed.
Not quite that easy. The drivers are responsible for the load as soon as they sign for it. If they refuse to deliver it then the load would be reported stolen.
Absolutely hate it for the drivers. Luckily for them there is an extreme shortage of drivers in this country so if they can get out of this mess they won’t be out of work long.

Seattle to New Orleans on Southwest Airlines for $172.
Have family or friend in Biloxi pick you up at MSY or get a Uber or Bus there.

Or that celadon was a horribly run company and the people in charge could be going to prison

Seems like the problem isn't so much getting home... it's what do you do with your load and/or your rig? You still have to deliver the load, and if it's your rig, you still got to get it home.
If it's a company driver who made it to their destination, then yes, hop on a bus or a flight home and regroup.

Except that several mid level companies have gone under as well

Take the trailer to destination, unhook, and drive away in the Peterbilt.
If you can unload and keep the trailer, even better.

Sure Buffett can buy them all up for another trillion in bail out cash

The AI and automation revolution coming like a freight train is going to put most truck drivers out of work for good.

In this state or elsewhere?
A major case going on in New Orleans may have something to do with local liability rates.

Not to be cold about this but these drivers were done a disservice by their employer . Someone should have let these drivers know what it all means when you have to start restating your financials and especially what the prognosis is when your company is delisted and not being taken private.

" All is well, remain calm, no need to panic" as the mob rushes you.
I know most on these boards don't like this, but if these guys were teamsters they would have been protected or at least have gotten an advanced heads up.
