Currently ongoing - Rumor broke out Friday night that a major trucking company was going under. Celadon employs over 3,000 truck drivers and haul freight in all of North America. When rumor broke out, their fuel credit company cut off their fuel cards to stop the company from ringing up more debt - thus stranding all of the truck drivers all over the continent. The company has no liability to get the drivers home, but the drivers are responsible for the freight in their trailer and the equipment to the company. The company officially announced this morning that they are filing chapter 11 and all loads are to be delivered, but most drivers still don't have their fuel cards and empty promises to be paid for delivering the freight.

This is the largest trucking company to go under in the history of the industry - mostly due to the cheap freight rates they have been hauling along with a $40m+ fine from the feds for fraudulent profit reporting which has landed indictments for their 2 executives. An absolute mess for the truckload industry right now after 2 mid size carriers dropped earlier this year - Falcon and N.E.M.F.

The folks who don't have transportation home are absolutely effed right now - especially the folks living paycheck to paycheck. There are companies offering to get them rides home in return for employment, and a lot of drivers are chipping in to help these people get bus tickets - I saw one dude that looked nearly suicidal Sunday morning in Virginia. All the guys sitting at the counter chipped in to get him breakfast and a ticket home from a bus depot further down the road.

TL;DR - Major trucking company shut down & turned off fuel cards, drivers are stranded all over the country.

You seem to know quite a bit about this subject. Are you a trucker?

Used to work for a transportation company and can promise you this is almost 90% of them. OTR truckers are absolutely horrible with money. My manager was actually murdered when a disgruntled driver came in and shot the office up in Katy.

Wasn't Celadon the carrier that advertised how many of its drivers intended to work for them until retirement?

Lakeville Motor Freight (LME) also closed earlier this year..Been a tough year for asset based carriers no doubt.

There have been consolidation rumors to bail out some struggling LTL carriers also so there may be more coming or buyouts immanent.

That's the shippers property, and that's a federal crime if caught. I've already seen a couple of unattended Celadon trailers and thought about seeing what's in there but I'm not in the mood for prison.

If the truckers don't have a couple of hundred in cash to spend then oh well.
