Only reason Louisiana isn’t number one is because there are still people who season their crawfish in an ice chest, and put tomatoes in their gumbo.

Look at that, Louisiana is the only state in the top 4 that doesn’t need a large immigrant population to have good food

Just a few overlord European counties, Canadian frogs and a bunch decidents of slaves.

The difference is immigrants (and not just hispanics, we have a ton of asians and ethiopians) are still coming to Texas and contributing to the melting pot. Louisiana food is great but it's pretty static save the Vietnamese in Nola. Texas food is still absorbing new immigrant ideas and evolving to create new dishes.

New Orleans has awesome food, definitely some of the best in the country, but it's all primarily one cuisine. Texas definitely has more diverse options throughout the State and a lot of them are very, very good.

That's code for Mexicans and Guatemalans.
It really is a diverse city. And not poor 3rd world immigrants. Good citizens from around the world.

Ok, you think I can’t find good gumbo, jambalaya, etouffe, red beans, etc outside of NO?

c'mon man...you need to get out of the French Quarter's shitty restaurants and try some real dining in New Orleans.
Of course you can get good gumbo, jambalaya, etouffe, red beans, etc outside of NO....you can get that at any gas station or grocery store plate lunches in Louisiana.

So what are we talking about then? What are your real restaurants serving?

quote:Disagree completely. Lafayette does one type of food better than Houston. Houston overall food scene blows laffy out the water. To suggest otherwise is foolish
I still disagree, even Lafayette has better food than Texas. I can promise at a family cookout, you will find much better stuff from "Down Da Bayou" than Texas.
And your down the bayou comment is very foolish as well
Yes, "down the bayou" you will get better cajun food, but "down the ranch" you will get far better BBQ

you can get all of that in texas and not even have to go to LA at all
Posted on 10/17/18 at 3:49 pm to OWLFAN86
I guess they don't know about Louisiana's middle eastern/Eastern European cuisine scene. Greek/Lebanese/Jordanian whatever you want to call it. I find that people from out of state think Halal Guys is incredible.

If you think all new orleans has to offer is fried and blackeded food, jambalya, etouffee, gumbo, red beans and rice, etc, then I dont know what to tell you.
Here's a few to try, Saba, Shaya, August, Meril, Peche, Maypop, Cochon, Irenes, Clancy....start there.

exactly....those foods are nothing special to New Orleans. That's not why new orleans made the list at #4

Most of those serve dishes that I can get elsewhere in Louisiana. I’ll give you the Israeli restaurant
