that detail just always stuck with me... to try to protect your work when you know you're basically about to die is pretty badass IMO.
There is no outrunning a pyroclastic cloud. Gotta figure he knew he was done and at the time there would be very little video or photos of that eruption up close. Might as well leave something behind for people to see

Wonder what happened to the pilot. You can see him standing detaching from his chute in the video. I can’t imagine the personal hell that dude went through knowing he killed all those people.

From wiki: LINK
On 24 June 2005, a military court sentenced pilot Volodymyr Toponar and co-pilot Yuriy Yegorov to 14 and 8 years in prison, respectively. The court found the two pilots and three other military officials guilty of failing to follow orders, negligence, and violating flight rules.

Very much reminds me of the Jane Wicker crash from a couple of years ago

I'm always kind of taken aback at how big fighter jets are when I see them up close or in a picture like this that shows the scale. It's truly amazing at the things they can do and be as big as they are.

In 1960, Japanese socialist leader Inejiro Asanuma was assassinated by radical right-wing activist Otoya Yamaguchi with a samurai sword during a televised debate. Asanuma was a communist sympathizer and wanted to link Japan more closely with China politically.

The fact that that politician shooting himself and the aftermath of the airshow can easily be found and watched on YouTube, while they remove things over "misinformation" is really crazy.

I’ve seen the video of that (Dwyer’s suicide), wish I could unsee it.
