The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has labelled the government of South Australia "cruel and uncaring" for imposing an extra two-week quarantine for athletes returning via Sydney from the Tokyo Games, meaning a 28 days of quarantine in total.
The additional quarantine requirement for athletes currently isolating in Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, comes on top of the two weeks mandated for all arrivals from overseas.
"Due to the high risk of the Delta strain of COVID-19 in NSW, anyone travelling from New South Wales must undertake 14 days quarantine upon entry into South Australia," the state said in a statement.

finally an AOC i agree with
but on a serious note. imagine representing your country in the Olympics proudly, to come home not to a parade but lockdown for a month. the world is addicted to the crazy pill called COVID

Australia and New Zealand have been some of the most egregious tyrants during COVID.
frick both of those countries.

hahahahahahhaahh people have lost their fricking minds.

Australia has handled their responses to this potentially the worst of any country outside of China itself.

They just want athlete babies. All you athletes stay in the same hotel and just chill for a month. O/U on number of kids that come out of this…

Australia has completely lost its damn mind.

Australia is the Michael Phelps of proving that lockdowns don’t work

Neither of those countries have anything resembling a second amendment.
Coincidence?

Didn't they have like one mass shooting incident in the 90s and immediately started a buyback/roundup of guns that were previously totally legal?

That has to be a fake article right? Are they going crazy or am I?

This is a thoughtful measure that’ll stop the spread. - C on Z, Lester, Tboy, etc

I doubt they are quarantining with other athletes. That would defeat the purpose of the quarantine completely. An athlete with CV could infect another athlete 5 days into quarantine, and that second athlete would be infectious upon leaving. This is to say nothing of tertiary, or worse, infections.

One athlete is likely quarantined inside a single room for the entire 28 days. At least, that is my understanding on these things have worked.

Found myself on the FB page for Queensland Health. Here's an interesting exchange:
Hi I have a daughter that suffers depression Sometimes calls out in tears for help. Can My wife and I go and see her Tuesday 14th April through to Friday 17th. She lives 4&half hrs same state QLD. We go monthly or so to help out with the kids until she feels better Kind regards Tony
Their response:
Hi Tony,
The Home Confinement Direction states that only two people who do not live in a residence may visit at one time. This includes children and infants. You can leave your house for essential purposes with either your household or one other person who does not live in your household.
You should be staying at home as much as possible - now is not the time for socialising. You should stay home unless for:
shopping for what you need - food and necessary supplies;
medical or health care needs, including compassionate requirements;
exercise in compliance with the public gathering requirements;
essential services work and study if you can’t work or learn remotely.
You can find further essential purposes and updates about the Directives here: LINK ...

My Sister in Law and Fiancé have been trying to get married in the States for almost 18 months now. Their initial date was April 2021. They rescheduled for June 2021. Nope. They've had to postpone everything twice. At this point, it looks like it will be next October before they'll be able to leave Australia. They've been on lockdown for over a month now and look to have another month to go.
We do zoom meetings with them every couple of weeks and they're visibly weary and depressed.
Normally, I've had high praise for Aus and think it's a fantastic country. But they messed this one up.

I wonder if the Olympic Village frick fest was subdued or heightened this year with everything going on.

So much science. Everyone knows that COVID knows where it came from, and if it came from an area with a lot of cases then it knows not to manifest itself for an extra two weeks.

Hell, they should have just flown to Mexico and walked into the US. No quarantine needed. They could be partying right now.
