quote:

A manager at an Olive Garden restaurant in Kansas was fired after a harsh message was sent to employees about taking time off.

A representative with the chain confirmed the Overland Park restaurant manager’s firing to KCTV on Tuesday.

We are no longer taking ANY excuse for calling off,” the manager’s message read in part. “If you’re sick, you need to come prove it to us. If your dog died, you need to bring him in and prove it to us. If it’s a ‘family emergency,’ too bad. Go work somewhere else.”

The message also said anyone who calls in more than once in the 30 days since it was sent out will no longer work at the restaurant.

The manager describes her own work ethic in the message, saying she worked when she felt sick and even made it to work after her car was totaled once.

Incoming posts from guys bragging about how they've never taken a day off in 30 years as if that's something to be proud of

Some lucky company is going to land themselves a solid manager. She'll land on her feet.

She just needs to smooth out the edges. Don't talk shite in publications. Do shite and the message will be sent.

Yeah in an industry with fickle unskilled labor pool that attitude will get you nowhere.

Honestly...as someone who has to manage people (behavioral therapists who work under me are generally college/grad school kids) I fricking get it. The call outs get obnoxious and sometimes I want to say if you're really ill this damn much maybe you need to be on disability

Any restaurant with a Zoosk kiosk on the table will go almost entirely automated soon enough.

They’ll have a machine administering unlimited soup and breadsticks via IV or suppositories.

this is a good "nobody wants to work anymore"

it seems like there are too many restaurants to properly staff in most areas

It’s not like there’s job openings all over, likely for more money. Manager is a complete loser.

Olive Garden is on par with Applebees or Chilis. I agree with her sentiment, but I don't want anyone who is sick or feeling bad serving or preparing my food.

That manager is an a-hole.

Probably has his/her Associate of Arts degree hanging in her little office

We've seen how employees are now in the service industry.

Can't really fault the guy for going ballistic. It's getting ridiculous. The laziness... the attitudes..

This looks like one of those managers who treat their employees like shite, but then complains and is confused when nobody wants to work for them.

I can’t imagine being so much of a pussy, that I would feel the need to bring this to the public’s attention

“OMG my manager said mean things to me and wants me to come to work even when I don’t want to”

I don’t fricking get it. We live in strange times
