Old man rant - the new “low watt” light bulbs suck

I remember when these came out. They were supposed to be the next “sliced bread” of the light bulb world. They costs 5x more, but save you money on energy and supposed to last 10x longer.
As an incandescent bulb went out, I’d replace with the new ones.
These piece of shite bulbs do not last 10x longer than the incandescent bulbs. I have new bulbs going out after a couple years. I have incandescent bulbs that are still original to my house from 18 years ago.

I’ve had a whole house full of LED bulbs and might’ve changed 2 in 10 years.

I always figured you as the kind of guy that would illuminate his home with lanterns and candelabras.

Assuming you're talking about LED bulbs, you're correct that they don't last as long as advertised.
However, with that much lower wattage, you can get some smart plugs and set lamps in your home to turn on and off automatically, or get smart bulbs that change intensity or transition from cool to warm throughout the day — it's literally a set-and-forget exercise.
And controlling six bulbs in your home this way still only uses about as much electricity as one older incandescent bulb.

They put cheap, shite drivers in them that can’t handle the heat over time. I’m going back to compact fluorescent as I change the dead LEDs.

The LEDs are capable of lasting 10 years. The control chip may not depending on what you paid.

Additionally, the new LED's are garbage.
Yes the LED element can last 20 years but the POS Chinese driver board fails in a year or two.
See all those flickering LED lights in business parking lots? Yeah that's the failed driver board doing its magic.

Govt shouldn’t be dictating what type of lightbulbs we can have, how much water we can use to flush, or how many mpg our cars can get.

I agree totally with antique!! It blows my mind how it’s illegal to manufacture and sell incandescent bulbs. But blows my mind more that people are just ok with it. Didn’t the government have something more important to focus on? Isn’t America about freedom and choice? Just like EV’s. I’m not against someone else having the right to buy one. I just don’t want to be told ( that’s the way it’s going) that at some point I’m going to have to buy one.
