These piece of shite bulbs do not last 10x longer than the incandescent bulbs.

Nope, and they never will unless you get the "Dubai bulbs" which run the LEDs filaments at half the power but use twice as many to get the same light output. The whole LED light bulb thing is a crock of shite in terms of saving anything, they appeal to the poorly educated dolts though.

I've found that the better quality bulbs (GE, etc.) seem to last a long time. The cheap ones don't last long at all.

Your speed would be the Centennial Bulb in Livermore, CA.

It got turnt on in 1901 and has been lit ever since.

Here’s its Webcam (CentennialBulb.org Link)

Yeah. I installed a lot of LEDs in my house in 2014. Almost all of them are still going strong. You may have bought cheap ones. You have to make sure you buy good ones.

Additionally, the new LED's are garbage. Yes the LED element can last 20 years but the POS Chinese driver board fails in a year or two. See all those flickering LED lights in business parking lots? Yeah that's the failed driver board doing its magic.

Makes so much sense. What are some better brands than Home Depot standard ones?

However, with that much lower wattage, you can get some smart plugs and set lamps in your home to turn on and off automatically, or get smart bulbs that change intensity or transition from cool to warm throughout the day — it's literally a set-and-forget exercise.

And controlling six bulbs in your home this way still only uses about as much electricity as one older incandescent bulb.

If you're running your house on solar and battery back up, I could see worrying about power usage from a possible limited supply during gloomy days like these. If you're connected to the grid and worried about it from a cost standpoint, why? You might save 100 bucks over the course of your life living to 80 plus years old.

Philips, GE, WaveForm. I stocked up on American-made heavy-duty incandescent bulbs years ago so my bedside and standing lamps all use those but for ceiling fixtures I have high CRI bulbs from WaveForm. Running quality LED's, dimmable, and dimmed will make them last.

When I moved into my house in 2017 every bulb was incandescent, and as they went out, I replaced with LED. Within 2 years it was all LED. I have had to replace exactly 1 LED.

Lightbulb count:

Basement: 4
Downstairs: 19
Upstairs: 26
Attic: 1

Forgot-
Outdoor: 8

If you leave them on all the time, they last a long time. Constantly turning them on and off shortens their life span.

I purchased 4 cases of incandescent bulbs years ago when I hear, Obama the stupid, was outlawing them. Still have years worth.

Are they in recessed cans? That’s part of the issue a lot of people have with LEDs - newer houses use a ton of recessed cans with flood bulbs, which require a little more consideration when installing LEDs.

The LED bulbs are very temperature-sensitive. It’s a bit counterintuitive as they also produce very little heat compared to incandescents. But the little heat they do produce can kill the driver boards if they aren’t properly ventilated.

The problem is that many recessed fixtures are not ventilated enough to run these bulbs. So if you put regular BR20 or BR30 LEDs in those fixtures, they will fail. Especially if they are fully enclosed cans.. those are 100% doomed. The solution is to either replace the fixtures with cans that are built for LEDs or use LED “puck” retrofit kits that install into the existing cans.

I have had no less than 25 Philips LEDs (not the Hue kind, just regular Philips bulbs) installed in track fixtures and table lamps in my living room for at least 6-7 years now and haven’t had a single failure. So I suspect a lot of folks are either fighting issues with can lights or are just buying really cheap bulbs.

They last longer but definitely nowhere near as long as advertised.

They also suck on dimmers, even the dimmable ones.

Idk why y’all are having so many issues with them. I have about 100 in my house and haven’t had to replace a single bulb in 5 years. I love not having to drag a ladder inside every couple months.

Something I just realized recently when installing a bunch of hub controlled dimmers. The good digital dimmers are far superior to the others. I replaced a few slider style dimmers with zwave compatible ones and they’re so much more usable, have the soft on.off, etc.

Our house was built in the 70s and still has about 5 or 6 dimmers, but I love them. They are the old knob or slide style though.

It's nice to leave the breakfast room light on kind of dim at night without having the whole house lit up.
