Body Cam in the link

quote:

"I don't want to go to the police car," she tells the officer putting her in the back as she sobs, begging to be let go, the video shows.

Turner then reenters the school where a woman asks if the restraints were necessary. Turner replies that if Kaia was bigger, they would have used handcuffs to restrain her.

Turner had also arrested a second 6-year-old.

Kaia is accused, in a police report document, of battering three staff members at Lucious and Emma Nixon Academy, allegedly kicking and punching them. A staff member was quoted as being one of the people hit and says in the report she wants to press charges and testify in court against the child.

The school or the staff member said that is not what happened. That person said they never wanted to press charges, and certainly didn't want the girl arrested.

quote:

A week after the arrest, Orlando police Chief Orlando Rolon announced that Turner had been fired.

Can’t do the time- don’t do the crime.
Society would be a lot better if people were held accountable for their actions. It begins with these young kids while they’re still redeemable

There might just be easier ways to handle a 6 year old other than using a police officer.

Bad parenting. Not teaching this kid to not hit people. Arrest the parents and the kid

Then why the frick did you call the police?

Why do people hate police again?

He should be charged with child endangerment for not having a booster seat for the little girl.

THIS shite RIGHT HERE. The schools want to avoid responsibility so they call the police. Well the police have one avenue of enforcement. Arrest and incarceration. So don’t call them if you don’t want that to happen.

Congrats boomers. This is what your asinine zero tolerance policy (among other things) has gotten us: 6 year olds being arrested in school.

That's what I don't understand.

People say this all the time like it's a shock that police officers arrest people. That's sort of their job, but a lot of people act shocked when it happens and say that's not why they called police.

Look, it seems like this officer went a little far, but a school should handle discipline itself. If they call the police, it should be because they need and want the police.

It's called time out, not restrained and arrested. The idiot behind the badge should have been arrested for child abuse, because if anyone else had used restraints on a 6 year old, we would have been arrested.

So, I agree with your thought that the school is ducking a little bit here. The thing is, if you have a kid that needs to be restrained, you don’t want school employees doing that unless you want to be sued into the stone age. This is why schools have “resource officers” (basically imbedded cops) on campus. Having an LEO handle that situation wasn’t the wrong call.

However, not all encounters with police should end in arrest and incarnation. A cop really ought to be able to handle a 6 year old girl without using restraints and putting her in the back of a unit. Even if she was in the 99th percentile she isn’t more than 70 pounds. If that’s a problem for him then he definitely doesn’t need to be a cop.

Putting 6 year olds in police cars isn’t parenting.

Well, not good parenting anyway.

While I don't disagree with you, I think any cop who touches that situation with a 10ft pole is fricking retarded and probably deserves to be fired.

I'd have stepped out of my cruiser, taken one look at the fact that it was a 1st grader I was expected to corral, and noped right the frick out of there.
