Eh I think it depends. Some of these guys do everything themselves and do it cheaper. Others get it outfitted from a 3rd party and pay a premium.

I'm actually looking at a chevy express awd. I know I know its not the best but you can get one used for 24k and gut it yourself. Another 5k and I think I could have something that is useful

A friend of mine builds these custom vehicles in a mountain town south of Denver.
My neighbor bought a sprinter and it's being built out somewhere in that area. Would be funny if it's the same shop. He's getting the off the grid build with solar panels and water filtration. He also said there is a year and a half wait to get them back due to the demand.

I’ve looked at these extensively. Given the price, you would be far better off to buy a pickup truck 4x4 longbed. Put a off road suspension and tired on it and get a slide in camper. You could do it for a fraction of the cost and the truck would be usable for other purposes simply by removing the camper.
Slide in campers are amazing with what they provide in terms of creature comforts and being off grid capable.
There are lots of YouTube channels on it.

I have a 100 series Land Cruiser that’s rigged for overlanding. I have a rooftop tent, roll out refrigerator, roll out storage complete with propane cooktop, and a swing out awning.
It’s great and we use it often, but I still prefer backpacking.

Just got back from AZ and saw lots of these. I do want a 4x4 sprinter van. Be a great hunting vehicle!

That's a straight axle conversion on that Ford van. It will run you $10k to get going with the front axle and suspension, but a damn fine rig with the 3/4 ton tranny and diesel.

Nothing touches these. Not an RV guy, but pretty intrigued by these. Want to make a trip up to Canada and work my way back down hunting in each state. I think this would be the perfect vehicle to do it in

Saw one of these one time, it's from a company called Sportsmobile that outfit trucks and vans. It was impressive in person.

I saw a white Earth Roamer in Keystone’s parking lot last year and a black LTS on I70 a few weeks ago. They are very impressive and seemingly manageable despite how big they are. The shell is huge even compared to the F650 chassis.

I'm thinking about doing something like that when it gets too hot to do much outside.
I have a 5th wheel and a whole bunch of toys. Everything I do since I'm retired revolves about being outdoors. I just got back from fly fishing and catching cutthroats.

I watched a video a while back on a guy in South Anerica that made a Ford Ranger 4×4 Diesel into one it was pretty cool. He just put a camper shell on it.

Yep. I just went this route. I've got a lot more room in my camper than some of those vans do. Some of those are tough to stand up in as an above average tall person. I can stand in mine no problem. It's a well built 4 season camper. Future trips just got a lot more fun.
Hauling a boat or a waverunner is easier as well.
It has solar and I'm planning on upgrading for more off grid power capabilities. Although 75% of the time I'll have power.
