This was never the case.

To those who have visited Japan, have any of you sought out the poorer areas? What are those areas like?

Can you name those you consider shitholes? Not doubting, just, which do you consider shitty? And is it because of governance, like communism, etc

I agree that the point blank America is fantastic mantra is delusional sometimes, but this is, IMO, the greatest country. Not because of freedoms but because of the ability to do what you want within reason and without judgement, whilst having the ability to get extremely wealthy.

I don’t wanna be that guy that says that in America, if you work, your effective tax rate is 75-80% and it all goes to Israel, Ukraine, and food stamps but

If you live and America and you work, your effective tax rate is 75-80% and it all goes to israel, Ukraine, and food stamps

Oh yeah and you can vote but they’re gonna hold up a pizza box to the window and switch your vote to democrat

The American dream is to be the 60% that don’t work and draw checks for a living

Re Tokyo, it's population is almost double the population in Chicago, 14M to 8M. A bit too crowded for me & a big reason so many are still wearing masks is they having been wearing masks for yrs : pollution. That's one big, crowded city. AS for English, son lives in Naguma, 4th largest city & we traveled to Kyoto, also a large city & again only saw Toilets as English signs. Out in the country's rural areas, none. Saw no dislike for Westerners anywhere. Again, they seriously hate the Chinese. Son teaches English to Japanese children & his visa is good as long as his "sponsor" supports him. No yards, all cars are small, roads narrow as hell. Coonass drivers would kill several people a day there.

I lived in Yokosuka 70-74. Went to Yo-Hi which was the American school on the navy base. Living there was memorable as we lived off base 3 of the 5 years we were there. We had a Japanese landlord who owned a rice farm. His wife and he would cook us a traditional Japanese meal once a month. This is where I learned to love Japanese’s food. Spent a lot of time in Tokyo. The Ginza district had great shopping. Climbed Mt Fuji with my dad in August of 74. Good time for a kid in high school.

There is a shite ton of crime in Japan that no tourist would see.

Corporate corruption and kickbacks are rampant.

My youngest son is doing the same. They may work for the same company. Been there since last August. He is enjoying himself but does feel a bit isolated because he is still learning the language. Overall, a good experience for his first job out of college.
