My buddy visited Japan and loved it, but he said that he felt discriminated against in some of the restaurants. They waited on the native Japanese before him and his gf.

Did you experience that?

UAE has a big mix of cultures and religions but has virtually zero crime. Somehow they make it work just fine.

So what yiu are saying is this is what you get when you have a country not built on the backs of slavery. Clean and crime free? Hmmmm

Having said that, I would not trade their efficiencies for our liberties we have here. I’m sure that sounds hokie or even naive to a lot. But it is so true. I like Americas mix of can do/get it done attitude but also our little bit of laziness mixed in. Idk. I feel totally in control of my destiny and like I can overcome most obstacles with some grit and thought. Japan runs like a top but humans really aren’t meant to run that way. They are so rigid and shoved into little cubes and worked to death. It’s nice to visit, but I think overall we are just not built to run like machines.

Sobering but very valid points.

Yet there are major problems in Japan. They aren’t having babies. GDP growth has been negative since 1990 or so. Maybe the illusion you see isn’t what it is cracked up to be.

A jackass american youtuber recently got in a shouting match in a Japanese subway because he was playing his music loudly on his phone.

That's a no-no in Japan. They're a quiet people.

They definitely hide a lot of their faults. But that is fantastic for tourists. Wouldn’t want to live here. But smooth sailing with visiting.

They are a very efficient society but to be that way, they are very conforming.

I’ve watched a dozen people stand at a crosswalk for over two minutes despite zero traffic and the crosswalk only 10’ wide. Enough for just a small car to fit.

No eating while walking. no drinking while walking. No outdoor smoking except in designated areas. Keep your trash in your pocket until you get home. Very strict line policy. I swear, it’s in their DNA to simply get in line. I don’t even think they know what it is for sometimes.

America used to not be trashy and everything worked on time like it was supposed to. Back when men were men and Americans prided ourselves on our work and the nuclear family was important. Then we became fat lazy slobs and allowed too many third world immigrants at the same time

I’m pretty old, when was this? Folks used to chunk their trash out of car windows driving down the road, dang, we made an Indian cry.

Dumped raw sewage in creeks and lakes and rivers.

Smog was a problem and dumping chemicals was pretty normal.

It wasn’t some utopia back then believe me.

But folks did work harder no doubt.

Son has been there 4 years & counting, married a beautiful Japanese young woman & now has a cute as a little button baby girl. Not coming back, in a few years, if that long, he will be totally assimilated. As noted, crime is almost non existent to the naked eyes...bikes, which everyone rides it seems, are simply parked to the side & left, no locks, no theft. No litter. Life expectancy is several yrs longer than ours & growing. The number of fat people has to be less than 5 %; no really obese people at all. Super polite & the elderly are super respected. But, yes, the birth rate is & has been dropping; no dating American style, dating parties instead. VERY much a male dominated society, certain professions are male only & the pay gap is significant. American feminists would have heart attacks. No child leaves the family home till married & Papa san rules like a king in each house hold. Cherry Blossom season is beyond beautiful. Hate, like, detest, Chinese tourists, which are very few. Only English signs I saw : "Toilet". Seeing the Japanese flag was kind of startling, being a WWII fan.

Where did you go? There is English everywhere. Public transportation, shopping, restaurants, street signs, etc.
