If I can only offer him 2 weeks of PTO, as a new hire, I have basically zero chance of getting him to come work for me.

ell your lazy arse HR director to update their hiring practices then.

I mean, the fact that they would offer this hypothetical person unlimited PTO as an incentive to get them to switch companies sounds like they did precisely that, yeah?

. You’ll start to hear all sorts of passive aggressive comments like “must be nice” or “does he/she ever work”.

It’s also possible they don’t care and they’re just busting the balls of the younger workers. Those older guys get a kick out of fricking with the newer guys.

Can’t stand the douchebags who brag “I never use all my vacation days!”

have never seen this in my 30 years of employment.

My dad would take from around Thanksgiving to Jan 3rd off. His boss then said that he was no longer allowed to take that many days off consecutively so he would then come in for a half day and head back to the hunting camp.

As someone who certainly doesn't kiss my administration's asses and who doesn't really care about anything work-wise besides my paycheck, I still do think there is a limit where taking PTO gets excessive, even if you have it.

At some point, it does become a little rude to your coworkers and supervisor to keep dipping out, even if you technically have the vacation days.

I guess I'm not talking about if you're actually on vacation, but if you're just hanging in town and taking a bunch of Fridays off just because, then it can be a bit of a bad look.

If it doesn’t affect your work - why? Get a better job.

Why? That’s part of your compensation.

Is it rude to not return part of your paycheck?

Im taking two months off this winter (Feb, March) which allows me to travel like I couldnt with lesser time. The schedules were covered two months ago.

With as much time as you spend posting on TD, I doubt your coworkers will notice you left.

so its absolutely not unlimited but rather semantics to make the company seem to care about their employees while also tricking the employees

"I'm not going to tell you how many days you can take off, you just have to guess and then if I get mad it's your problem!"

Sounds like what happens when I ask my wife where she wants to eat.

I’m 45 and have been with the same company 22 years. We can carry over a max of 1/2 our annual allotment. This year is the first year I’m carrying over any vacation to next year.

I’m carrying over 1 hour.

I qualify for 240 hours of PTO each year. Since we only have six employees, I usually just use around 80 hours per year and get an extra check for unused time that I accrued.
