The obesity rate among U.S. women continues to tick upward, with the latest study showing that about 40 percent of American women are obese.
However, the obesity rate in U.S. men has stayed about the same over the past decade, the study found.

In 2013-2014, 40.4 percent of all U.S. women were obese — up from 35.3 percent in the same survey from 2005-2006. The percentage of U.S. women who are severely obese, with a BMI of 40 or more (known as "class 3 obesity"), also increased, from 7.4 percent in 2005-2006 to 9.9 percent in 2013-2014.
But for U.S. men, the overall obesity rate in 2013-2014 was 35 percent, which was not a significant change from the rate in 2005-2006, the researchers said. The rate of severe obesity among U.S. men also did not change significantly during the study period, and was at 5.5 percent in 2013-2014

10% of women are "severely obese, with a BMI of 40 or more"
Is everyone really just eating too much? We consume more food each and every year even with all the new advances?
Yeah, I know cal in/out.....but we had the yoga pant decade and it still got worse? Gluten free, no carbs, kale, etc,etc,etc...and it still got worse?

Yoga pants hid fat ya dummy.
They actually contribute to weight gain

yes
but part of that is that people are eating shite that doesn't satiate them and it leads to eating more stuff throughout the day
add in sugary drinks and it's just too much shite constantly being consumed
we're also much more sedentary these days, so our margin for error is worse

Is there some social-economic demographic breakdown of this?

Isn't BMI a shittastic way to account for "obesity"?

Portion sizes of the food we eat are roughly double what people had in the 70's, but stagnant lifestyles are the most important reason people are getting fatter. Particularly changes in the workplace.

only when it applies to males

The BMI charts are wrong, it needs to be changed so less women are obese!

as with all things, poor people, esp at the very bottom, severely skew the stats

Not really for women
How many "fit" women do you know with a bmi of 30?

I love big women. Shade in the summer, warmth in the winter.

this is what happens when you have disgusting fatbodys in bathing suits on magazine covers telling women that it's ok to be obese as long as you "love who you are".

How many unfit women do you know that actually know their BMI? And if they did, how many are telling anyone?
We really don't need to concern ourselves with this though. I foresee this number shooting down to near 0% very soon. Not because people lose weight, but because fatties will demand that we redefine what obesity is, or make it offensive to consider someone obese. PROBLEM SOLVED.

This is why we have the rise of SJW women. They are sex deprived.

BMI is flawed. They just workout.
