This reads like an article from The Onion.
Psychology has to have some of the dumbest folks on the planet in their ranks.

Psychology
It is basically a humanity, like sociology.
Take nothing that they say to heart.

Everything is about willpower.

Sounds like something a fat psychologist would say.

Obesity, since the beginning of time, has been caused by one thing and one thing only:
Eating too Goddamn much.
That's it.
I understand there are some people with chemical/medical disorders, some people are more prone to gain weight than others because of their physiology, I get it. But ultimately, it is literally impossible to continue to gain fat mass if you burn more calories than you consume.

So it's tougher for them and easy for you to say...

Actually, I'm one of them.
My body type is a hybrid of Endomorph and Mesomorph, meaning it's easy for me to put on muscle mass, but just as easy to put on fat mass if I don't watch my food intake.
Ectomorph body types are the ones who can eat whatever and never gain an ounce. Which sounds like a blessing, but they also have an extremely difficult time putting on muscle. Majority of ectomorphs are "skinny fat".
You can make excuses for being fat, but ultimately it's a choice, regardless of genetics, with very rare exceptions.

Oh, so compelled speech? Gee wiz I sure wish there was something in our constitution that protected free speech, like the right to call someone a fatty fat fat fat.

Thank you. I’ve pointed this out several times and downvoted to hell and back.

So should I be eating until I’m full or eating until I’m not hungry?
Hoping one day to get my fatass down into the “Overweight” range on the BMI Chart and out of the “Obese” area.

For frick's sake.
I have lost (and gained) hundreds of pound in the last 25 years and it absolutely is willpower.
When I exercise it, I lose weight and stay slim.
When I don't, I get fat.
And I actually have a thyroid condition.

The only reason I'm not built like an NFL running back is that I dont have the motivation to eat right all the time and work out 3 hours a day.

I’m fat. It’s totally about the lack of willpower. When I was younger, I could eat everything I wanted with no apparent repercussions and I was borderline underweight at times. The hidden repercussions were the bad habits I developed regarding portion control and eating whenever and whatever I wanted. I tell people that when I was a young man my goal was to weigh 200 pounds (I’m 6’1”), now my goal is still to weigh 200 pounds the only difference is direction.

Willpower and motivation are only a part of the equation. They are great for getting someone to start but they do not last - they are fleeting emotions.
Losing weight and keeping it off takes discipline above all else. You have to modify behaviors and habits and make them the new norm. There is a set of behaviors that all successful "losers" display regardless of age, ethnicity, location, gender, creed -
Congnitive Restraint
Long-term focus
Regular exercise
Social Support
Structured Programs
Self Monitoring
So.. for most people fat shaming does not help. Motivation and willpower will help you lose weight but only temporarily. Getting them to slowly adopt these principle behaviors over time is the best path to long-term success.

I'm fat, have a shitty thyroid that I'm medicated for, and have lost almost 120lb.

Psychology is a joke science
I’ve been obese twice now in life and both times I had a day where I looked in the mirror and hated what I saw and made a pact with myself to change it and I succeeded.
I’m nowhere close to alone in that. These reports are nonsense and part of some weird broader movement to take away all personal accountability from the self.

Many, many people do this.
Tell me - have you kept the weight off after the 2nd time? Most people (95%) don't and either gain it all back or gain it back plus some within 5 years of losing it.

Eat until you aren't hungry.
I don't like diets because they don't work long term, you have to make a lifestyle change that you can live with. But it's about what and how much you consume vs what you burn
Let's say you weigh 300lbs, you're 6ft tall, mid 30s and you sit around all day and do very little physical activity at all, (couch potato if you will). Your body will burn somewhere around 2500-2600 calories naturally, which means you need to consume 2000 calories every day in order to lose 1-2 lbs per week.
You can speed up your metabolism by eating clean (vegetables, lean protein, healthy fats) and doing light activity or exercise, and you'll be able to eat more calories, not many, but 200-300 more as long as it isn't junk.
There's a billion ways to speed up your metabolism, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, A PILL FROM VITAMIN SHOPPE ISN'T ONE OF THEM. It all comes down to burning more calories than you consume, every day. That's it, that's the big secret, THERE IS NO OTHER WAY.
