Yes, there are a lot of fat people out there, but I want to know what they consider obese. 40% seems rather high, outside of your local Walmart.

Are they using BMI? BMI is a horrible indicator for obesity. I'm 5'10", and a muscular 210 pounds. No one would call me fat. According to BMI, I am considered obese.

I don't know if they are douchebags but the one thing I've noticed about the OT is most seem to have an almost unhealthy obsession with people who are overweight.

You are fat.

Do people mistake you for an NFL running back when you walk down the street? Because you are the same height and weight as Alvin Kamara.

You and I are the same height. I weigh 180 lbs., and I could stand to lose 10 lbs. Unless you are absolutely all muscle, you're fat.

Then don't worry about it

People crying over dudes with dad bods are irrelevant. It's the difference between your doctor saying "try to lose 10 pounds before next year, good visit, see you then" and "you need to drop weight or you're going to have problems."

Isn't this a low-ball number?
Isn't Basal Metabolic rate the energy required for basic body functions? For example if in a body cast. With walking around doing normal stuff I'd guess the average person probably burns closer to 3000 before any exercise is factored in.

Exactly, the rationalization of being fat. Fat people don't even realize they're fat because their less fat than the morbidly obese.

I gained 3 pounds on vacation last week and now I feel gross. I can’t imagine what it feels like to actually be fat

Unless you look like a NFL RB or bodybuilder, you're fat

you're just used to being fat and don't realize how much extra weight you are carrying

mike menzter was 5'8 and around 230-240 during his career

if you are sporting a six pack at 230 lbs then congrats, you are outside the norm and shouldn't be using bmi to assess your health

’m 5’8” maybe 5’9”. I am currently on a new diet and losing fat, but I also lift weights. Heavy, hard and often. Even when I drop my body fat % to a healthy level, I will still be “overweight.” I believe the chart says I should weigh about 165. I MIGHT be able to get down under 200. I’m right at 230 right now. How am I suppose to get to 165?

Dude, I'm 5'8. The highest I got was 190 and I was fat, buttons were starting to burst on size 34s.

I fluctuate between 145 and 150 now and could wear a 29 but like the extra room in jeans so I go 30.

Until I lost that weight. I didn't realize how fat I really was. Now I'm not muscular, and never want to be. But I'm lean and look better than I ever have.

At 10 lbs lost you'd be at the top of "normal" band. You'd need to drop 30 lbs to be in the center of the normal band, and as long as you didn't lose more than 50 lbs you wouldn't fall into the "underweight" category.

Sounds like you're skinny fat. I hover between 10 and 15 percent body fat depending on the time of year. No one is mistaking me for the obese rating I get on the BMI.

The point here is even if I was closer to 20% body fat, I wouldn't be obese, yet the BMI that is being used to judge such things has me listed as the type of person who has to get around Walmart in a hover round cart.

Maybe. All I know is that it was a pain to convince my life insurance company that I wasn't a lumbering lard arse.
