I wish they would start health insurance pricing tiers based on weight. The fatty uproar would be hilarious.

Body fat percentage would be better. What about us guys who lift like beasts and are technically “over weight”?

All you people who talk condescendingly about fatties and sugar addicts, and brag about your keto diets and workouts.... you're all a bunch of douchebags.

I hope the extra 3-5 years you gain in old age by denying yourself the enjoyment of something as basic as food is all you hope it will be.

I'll take a McGriddle, ma'am.
There aren’t many basic foods that I haven’t tried. And there’s nothing wrong with occasionally having a McGriddle. The problem comes when when the majority of what you put into your body is disgusting food. When you couple that with a sedentary lifestyle you get extreme fatness. I’m not buying that your poor health is actually making you a happier person.

You added those other items not the person who mentioned McGriddles.

Because very few people are going to McDonald’s and getting a single McGriddle. I added the items in the breakfast value meal, which is by far the more popular option.

And 800 calories still isn’t a huge meal IMO. Granted I’m a long distance runner and eat nearly 3000 calories a day, but a average sedentary male should eat around 2000 calories a day. 800 calorie breakfast still leaves 1200 calories for the rest of the day.

2000 will maintain their weight of 300+ pounds. Should be less down to 1200 to get to a healthy weight.

Point is, single food choices aren’t the enemy. The persistent eating of high calorie foods all day long is the problem.

That’s kinda my point. These people aren’t eating stuff like McDonald’s occasionally. It’s daily.

I agree that body fat would be a more accurate measure, but BMI fits the lazy culture

When you can frick, fight, drink, float, cook, entertain, or conduct yourself as a gentleman half as well as me, I will continue to not care about your opinion.

Until then, continue to defy science by being the neediest attention seeking autistic person of all time.

I’m 5’7 168 pounds. I very obviously need to lose about 25 pounds, but every year my health screening comes back with a gold star rating, which means I’m in the upper tier of health. Whenever I mention losing weight, I get comments from people about how I’d be too thin. People need to learn that unless you’re a woman with sizable breasts, nothing should jiggle on your body.

That right there is fine. Being healthy does not just mean being thin. A little body fat is not going to kill anyone. There are a lot of internal factors that determine one's health. People being slightly overweight is not the epidemic in this country, and is not the point of this thread. Women who weigh 268 pounds at 5'7 is the problem. Because it is at that size that the health risks really rise.

Your desire to lose weight is a noble one, but ultimately it is more of just a personal goal of how you would prefer your body to look.

I'll add the obligatory caveat using BMI to define obesity and overweight is a little off, especially on males. The data to set those standards was derived in 1800's France prior to weight rooms being a thing.
What about the argument that weight rooms are basically just a replacement for people not doing as much manual labor as they used to?

That isn’t true. Someone eating 300 pounds needs way more than 2000 calories to maintain their weight. Any basic TDEE calculator can give you the numbers they need to lose weight.

1200 calories would provide rapid weight loss but at an unhealthy rate.

But that isn’t fine. It’s not okay to settle with your body at any point in life. You should be pursuing a healthy, sustainable, useful body at all times.

Telling people they should be okay with being overweight or slightly obese is a bad mindset and leads to complaceny which leads to those 268 pound land whales that are plaguing our health care systems.

I actually edited that in, because I still won't care.

However, my first two meetings were cancelled, so I don't have shite to do until about 3.

fricking with him seemed a noble pursuit.

Yeah you can eat a lot, but as I posted on the health and fitness board, I was 168 pounds when I started running and I’m 168 pounds running 30 miles a week.

You can’t outrun a bad diet.

It's at pandemic status, and Americans are the vanguard. We've lost our way on this one, and as long as the PC mob-mentality continues, it won't get better. People don't change when they're comfortable; they only change when they are uncomfortable. Being told you're beautiful and healthy as a 5'5" woman at 295 lbs. to spare feelings is just downright dangerous.

Reduce your calories and increase your activity. Simple as that.
