From what I understand people are pouring out of NYC. People are also leaving LA.
If you work in the entertainment business for example (comedy, actors, etc) why would you stay in one of these cities, continue to pay the outrageous cost of living when there is no work available?
And you don't have to be in either one of those cities to create content anymore. And while there are other industries (especially in New York), there are a lot of small industries that were created because of the entertainment industry.
When all of this shite is over, I think we see a big shift in the US. I am not sure how or where, but I don't think people will be moving to one of those two cities to pursue opportunities that were only available in one of those two cities.

Cuomo has already been crying about the wealthy citizens leaving the City for their second, safer homes in the Hamptons, etc. Whining that many are choosing not to return. It was noted in the article that 1% of the wealth in the City accounts for 59% of the taxes paid to the city.

Even before COVID and rioting, retail was in trouble in a lot of places.
JCPenney is in bankruptcy as is Neiman Marcus; both closed stores in Manhattan.

You can comparw then in a lot of ways.
Overal NY got it way worse. Way earlier
Florida Curently has it worse (which of course is relevant)
