Im not the one on here bitching that rich people may move to my area
the cost outweighs the benefit. look at Austin and the Texas Hill Country. sure, a bunch of rich out of staters moved there and it's, i guess, fancier (?) now. but the complete soul has been ripped out. not to mention the traffic that comes with it.
i'm honestly kind of surprised that you're so angrily in support of out of state liberals moving here

essentially saying...stop making things nice.
so a bunch of rich northerners is what is needed to make Mandeville nice.
ok.

i dont really want liberals to move here...but out of state money...absolutely.
and Austin is a much better city imo now.
soul is just another word to describe culture....ie. things poor people like.
I like nice things, I like nice suburbs in the state.
the cost absolutely do not outweigh the benefit. Sorry i consider this a dumb take. why would you not want people building nice houses and bringing in better businesses that employ more people?
this is no different than being against Space X or any development
its the CAFE arguement
CAFE= Citizens against frickING EVERYTHING

umm yea
we 100% need an influx of capital and high wager earners in this state. dont give a frick where its at
let me guess...you are worried about property values going up?
are you are worried about the "Culture" going away?
why do you care where they are from? and frankly northerners that would move to that area are not likely to be liberal.....so why would you care if people of means want to move there?

ok well if a huge generic suburban sprawl full of really nice chain stores and restaurants is your thing, then more power to you.

i can see why someone from Lake Charles would think this but for anyone that grew up going to the Hill Country in the 80s and 90s, Austin and everything around it for a hundred miles is much worse.

other than traffic....how?
way more economic opportunity
way more stuff to do
way nicer restaurants
its still liberal
high class of people
schools are bigger, but they are also nicer now
its just nostalgia that makes you think this.
has nothing to do with Lake Charles
and i mean look the north shore has plenty of land. should the north shore never grow? do you want it to grow with trailer parks or sub divisions with multi million dollar homes?
do you want dollar stores and fast food or nice stores and nice restaurants opening

I preferred the Northshore in the 80s and 90s. I don't get the hype now about it, other than it's not NOLA or BR. Downtown Covington and Old Mandeville are pretty neat (historic areas), same goes for Madisonville and Abita. But thats about it.

An influx of multi millionaire NY’ers wouldn’t be good for them.
C’mon man. There’s not a single person in the Northeast with any sense or money that will pick up and move to Louisiana. Most of them have never stepped foot inside any state in the South. Do you know how they view this area and its people? It’s asinine to think this article would influence a single person.

You say that but I know of a couple from L.A. that were in the movie business. A couple of years back they picked up and bought a house on the Lakefront. Six months ago, a friends sister and her husband took early retirement from their jobs on Wall Street and they moved their kids to… old Mandeville.
That particular couple were both well up the food chain in two large banks. They had a place in Manhattan, a place on Long Island, a condo in the Hamptons and a place in Vail. They chose Mandeville. If you are surprised by that, it’s less than I am. But it’s a fact. They laugh about what they paid for their house here that they gutted and completely rebuilt.
All of the above are hard core Liberals and they have found like minded folks in the area. The thought of a Colorado or Texas style influx of rich liberal outsiders should bother anyone living here.

Some of the brand new homes going up on those 3 acre wooded lots on Brewster are pretty incredible- certainly 1.5- 2 million$

People will leave after any big hurricane. Then you buy in, rinse, and repeat.
