Because the government is so great at running other programs, right?!
I don’t want them making decisions about my family’s healthcare.

As strange as it is to say, most dependable way to make a guaranteed six figures in 2021 is agency/contract/travel nursing

Not true over here at the big O. They just make your life a living hell with testing and what not.

That trend has definetly changed over the last decade. Lots of males now in the field.

We have been short on nurses for about 5 years now. Covid obviously made it worse. I think the main cause now are the nursing agencies paying out the arse for their nurses. Our nurses are leaving for like 3 months at a time, making bank, then take off for 3 months and so on. Only good thing to come out of this is that the pay for nurses in nola has increased big time. We finally getting paid on par with the rest of the country. At my hospital, the upper management needs to step up and figure the staffing situation out fast because we are critically short atm. All our contract nurses have moved on.

Travel nurses in NOLA are making BANK. Close to Cali level profits once you figure in expenses.

My sister is a nurse/director for a home health agency, she said over Thanksgiving that all nurses in Louisiana have to be vaccinated by early December or lose their license.
I don’t think this is true.

Nursing shortages and new, unskilled nurses are the #1 problem in healthcare right now.
I would add to that the fact that the medical profession relies on running tests and rarely practices medicine and bedside manner anymore.
Any doctor or nurse not pushing the upsell on pharmaceuticals will not be there long or running multiple test to pay for equipment.
Insurance has made the medical profession a simple formula of do the things that insurance will cover and big pharma wants regardless of the individual patient's needs.

Daughter is an ICU nurse in Dallas. (no pics you pervs) Talked to her yesterday and her schedule has now been increased due to vacations and shortages to 4 nights a week but the 4th night comes with a $40 an hour adder! Add in the $6 an hour night shift differential and holiday adder and she'll be making some really good Money the next month or so. They are also eligible to earn a $2500 bonus if you don't miss any shifts between now and the end of the year.

There are nurse shortages all over and hospital that are paying more are getting them... hospitals who can afford to hire travel nurses are paying them bank.
Even in hospitals, basic economics still works. Pay people more and they will generally work for you.
As far as EJGH, they were a mess for many years and recently were taken over by LCMC. LCMC is no banner organization but they are better run and better funded than EJGH was... my guess is it will take LCMC some time to turn around EJGH. That is probably making the nursing problem worrse.

Yesterday was the deadline for Ochsner employees to be vaccinated or else face termination. I haven't heard anything today as to whether or not they actually went through with firing unvaccinated employees that weren't granted an exemption.

If Ochsner is like most hospitals that I have seen, most holdouts have already resigned.

Some places are starting to take retention seriously ($20/hr diffs at some places in BHAM), but a lot of competition right now for good nurses.
I know in Houston, almost everywhere is offering sign on bonuses. I think most places, it's up to $20,000 for an RN, $10,000 for an LVN, and $5,000 for a CNA (although in Tx, that designation means little.) They're supposed to stay 2 years or will have to pay back the bonus and they get half when they start work and half later. I can't remember when, but I should know how much later.
Right now, it's been a carousel with nurses leaving everywhere to get their sign on bonus. At some point, they will all have left and have to stay at their new place for a while.

I have spoken with too many local Nurses & medical employees that were anti-vax but some got it anyway when they were forced.
To: all those snot nosed know it all's re: the vax and only bucktooth rednecks aren't getting it. You are wrong.
Trusting the CDC and govt is not smart. LINK
Think for yourselves.

It's so bad they are offering very high dollar retention bonus's right now. For short times too. 1 year is the shortest one I've heard to date, but offering 20-30K for just 1 year!
