Trump has already stated he has plans for ending conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. Anything that makes him a less effective negotiator is to Russia's advantage. I do not think a pissed off Trump would be what you want when negotiating. Not a guy to get petty with, pretty sure he takes the cake. Then again, I would not think this would really work to bother him, considering how wide spread this already has been prior.

It's to support Putin's claim to be the great protector of Christian values., i.e. emphasize the moral depravity of the American president and culture to his base.

In 2008 a Moscow newspaper reported Kabaeva was engaged to Putin which the Kremlin denied and shortly thereafter the newspaper was shut down by the government which means the story about the gymnast and Putin was accurate.
Following the Ukraine invasion by Russia Kabaeva was sanctioned by the U.S., Australia and most of Europe because of her connection to Putin although her country of residence has been Switzerland since 2015.
