Russia doesn't do anything without a reason. So what is the reason? Embarrass Trump in hopes of diminishing his international stature? Trump has already stated he has plans for ending conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. Anything that makes him a less effective negotiator is to Russia's advantage. Seems crude and heavy handed but Russia is not known for subtlety.

Trump knows but a lot of the world doesn't know or has forgotten. I'm not saying Trump feels personally embarrassed by it but the angle may be to make him look less statesmanlike. It may not work but sometimes you just throw stuff at the wall and see if anything sticks.
