What these folks gonna do when this country goes cashless?

Come the think of it, I've not been to an ATM in 2+ years.

same. The article says that it is even hard for the branch to detect but we are supposed to look for things that look suspicious on the atm. Ok.

If you’re using an ATM in this day and age you are most likely up to no good anyway.

You realize that cashless means more opportunities for people to skim your credit card?

Technically right, in that cash can't be use for fraud after you've given it to someone. Apple Wallet, EMV, contactless is *not* more susceptible to fraud than swiping. ETA: the liability limit was changed more than a decade ago to encourage the shift off of swipes.

Track data is required to be treated with a higher level of sensitivity than any other part of credit card data, because you can clone cards with it. There is a reason that the card brands told banks and merchants that if they didn't move to EMV, or accept what is essentially contactless payments, which are more fraud resistant, they would have had a much higher liability limit than if they accepted EMV or other methods that didn't require a swipe.

Track data (magnetic strip) essentially makes almost always sure that a transaction is classified as "card present," which has fewer hoops from a fraud perspective, than "card not present" transactions, which basically require the account number (PAN, expiration date, maybe a CVV.)

Cloned cards are almost always tested with micro transaction at gas stations, first, before someone orders thousands of dollars of crap from Best Buy. Why? It's a card present transaction, all of the cameras are overhead which means a simple hat makes you unidentifiable. Then, because you put in two dollars in gas, it doesn't show up as a notification on the actual code owner's account, and rates as a low risk transaction.

Just wait until they outlaw cash & your bank, that is controlled by the government, owns you. They control when & what you can spend in your account. It coming & it's going to be bad for everyone. It's already happening in China & Canada has frozen accounts for citizens protesting against mandated vaccinations.

I used to work at a bank

Out of habit, I always pull on the card reader at atms and credit card machines. Skimmers have been around for a long time, and they get more convincing every year.

Remember this death trap of an ATM on Scenic Highway? A man was stabbed to death there.

Who would plant a skimmer in NBR, since all those people are flush with cash

Preach.

Same here. They’re like pay phones to me. I have no idea why dinosaurs still use them.

Debit cards at ATMs is how you get fricked.

Cash is for homeless people. I honestly can’t remember the last time I used cash to pay for anything, other than feeding dinosaurs at work who don’t use payment apps to pitch in for office bullshite. It’s probably been about 5 years. I don’t even know my pin # anymore.

I use credit cards for restaurants (those that don’t offer QR codes on receipts) and at gas stations. Groceries use a payment app (QR code).

I've never been to an ATM... I do tug on the scanners at gas stations to see if they are attached securely thou.
