I honestly thought from the pictures taken earlier it was going to be dramatically worse. From those few pictures inside, I would say that is incredible if that is the main damage outside of the roof.

I’m going to guess the French have a lot of skilled craftsman and who can do this repair work.
One, they have an enormous demand for it, given the number of castles and culture artifacts built over the last two thousand years.
Two, there’s a lot of money in it. Between state funds that match a portion of your spending, and private money from the rich.
Three, they hate change, and so they’ve probably preserved the old construction methods.

I don’t think the state will be funding any of this. The secularism in France is ingrained. They have complete separation of church and state. This is going to be on the Catholic Church.

True. But the leading French company was the one on the job, and it may be implicated in starting the fire.

Unfortunately my photos are packed away in a closet under a stairwell. Don’t know if I have the strength to get to them.

President Macron is putting up a rebuilding fund

I’ll believe it when I see it. If they vote on it, it’s far from a done deal.

The state owns the cathedral, not the Catholic Church.

Yep, and the contractor may have some liability too.

It's nice to see you're as insufferable here as you are everywhere else on this site.
Newsweek published last month that Catholic churches have been attacked throughout France And you want to DEMAND that a construction accident is all we are permitted to consider? really?

They have separation of church and state, but the entire country is Catholic, to the point that it’s really a precept to being French.
Attendance at church is low, and dropping, but that really hasn’t changed anything. The culture is driven by Catholic norms, and that will probably never change.
But the French would never think “oh it’s a religious monument, that different.” It’s their culture and history, and that’s really important to them.
(As it should be)
