Holy shite. That's a testament to what a remarkable structure "Dark Age" Europe was able to complete.

building with a fireproof material like stone is apparently a great idea

especially at a time when everyone used a shite ton of candles and fire pits to light up a room

Because they haven’t had time to piece together old video to make their propaganda tape.

It looks like one/two sections of the ceiling collapsed, but otherwise, everything seems to be intact. There appears to be more water damage inside than anything else.

The inside picture doesn’t look too bad. The wooden roof and spire can be rebuilt

John Quincy Adams had a stone library built to house the Adams family's thousands of materials for fireproofing reasons.

This fire is terrible but much of the cathedral was damaged in the French Revolution and rebuilt and changed in the 19th century including the spire that was rebuilt in a more ornate style and most of the glass in the rose windows was replaced in a new design style. Many sculptures and ornamentation were also rebuilt.

Your point?

I wonder if it was hot enough to melt all of the gold. It would be crazy to see gold puddles where priceless art stood.

These pictures almost look fake considering the aerial video.

Assuming those pictures are legit (and I certainly think they are), that's amazing

Sure, still a massive loss, but there will still be a lot left for future generations. It won't be yet another historic site with mere fragments of original structure left.

It has been rebuilt before and will be again. Not everything in and on the building dated back to the 1200s. So while the fire is bad, its not the tragedy of epic proportions some are making it out to be.
