There will not be a lack of funds for this. That I promise you.

Dude, that is ridiculous. Some things saved? Sure. All art & treasure saved? Please.
Where are you getting your talking points?

If you ever find yourself in France, watch the local news.
It’s like anchorman.
Every day is a good day.
They don’t report bad news, unless they have to.
I was in Tours last August and a van rolled up at the church I was visiting. Four older police officers jumped out, and preceded to clear the building. They had serious gear too - one was carrying a grenade launcher.
They didn’t find their man, and quickly moved on, but you could hear sirens into the night.
Zero coverage on the news.
And that’s just the way it is.

And that’s not to say this is terrorism, a contractor error seems more likely, but it France is a place where problems are politely hushed up.

Agreed
Cool to see people from all over the world offering to pitch in to help the cause.

I remember being there as a 17 year old kid on a HS Easter break trip in 1969.

It is nice that some things have been saved. But the cathedral took 150+ years to build. The damage is colossal.

I’m Catholic, and I don’t see the need for this if it’s state owned

I know they will do a good job trying to get it back to where it once was

The Parisan prosecutor's office said they've ruled out arson and terrorism for now. Suggesting it's something else is speculation. If you can't understand why any reputable news anchor would out a stop to speculation, I can't help you.

maybe 1 of the construction guys came up to police and said "hey... I was in there doing some welding and a beam caught on fire and I GTFO and called the fire dept"

They have separation of church and state
You have to figure this is more than a religious thing as well. This is a historical building that many non Catholics and non believers will want to see preserved for the artistic and architectural significance

You aren’t going to convince the “it’s muslims” crowd

quote:Well, you have to choose which is more common and the simpler solution:
You aren’t going to convince the “it’s muslims” crowd
1. Vandalism of French churches, which has been increasingly common,
Or
2. Fires during restorations.
Occam’s razor and all that jazz.
Posted on 4/15/19 at 7:57 pm to Scruffy
Ill go on record saying it wasn’t done on purpose
Posted on 4/15/19 at 7:58 pm to Scruffy
If it were muslims at least they were covert and did the dirty work in the construction area while the church was empty.
Opposite of ever other terrorism they have done.
Opposite of ever other terrorism they have done.

The French government will never be honest about it either.
We don’t know what happened, but people acting like the “restoration construction fires are common and Occam’s razor” are just flat out wrong if you actually apply that principle.

Opposite of ever other terrorism they have done.
Fits the bill here as well.
