This is the second time Ochsner was mentioned. What did they do with their non competes?

Any severance package?
If not, I doubt any court would enforce a “non-compete.”
Work as a “contractor/consultant.” They won’t be able to trace payment to you personally.

Shocked how many people on here just chime in with bogus information. I deal with these daily on a large scale. It is enforceable and they are not worth breaking. However, a good lawyer can usually punch some holes in it. For instance on mine the previous company listed the cities I couldn't work within 50 miles of but Louisiana law dictated they had to list the parish. We used this a couple of times to get Louisiana employees.

Absolutely incorrect.

They have broad non-competes for physicians. If you want to leave Ochsner you pretty much have to leave the state

Most likely not legal. Way to broad. I’m not an attorney but have dealt with non-competes as an employer.
They have to be pretty specific to be enforced. That doesn’t mean your old employer won’t raise a stink but most bluff about it and never go to court.
Bad for the brand to be preventing a guy not valuable (sorry they let you go and that shows how much they value you) enough to keep around but theyre worried about him harming their business competitively.

Ochsner is evil. They want to own every healthcare facility in the state so doctors have no choice where to work and then once you start working for them you have to leave the state if you want to work somewhere else.

Did the non compete specify any damages.
If not then they can pound sand.

That's not legal. You can't be fired and then told you can't work on the same field.

You got laid off and they tried to include a non compete?
That’s not worth the paper it’s written on.

Every time this comes up the usual idiot numbnut suspects show stating how they are illegal or not worth the paper they are written on.
The truth is they are perfectly legal if written correctly. For sure lawyer up or you may owe the other side's attorney fees and court costs for enforcing it against you.

Every time this question comes up, non lawyers on the OT give tons of really bad advice/information. This thread is no exception. Get advice from an attorney in the relevant jurisdiction and completely ignore every substantive piece of advice in this thread.

I had a friend (Ga) that got laid off and a competitor reached out to her. Her former company said they would still enforce her non compete. Maybe it was her industry knowledge.
She thought about fighting, but said screw that noise and left the industry.
Good for her

This topic is full of bad advice. Let your atty know you need to hear back or you will need to consult another local atty.

Years ago, Ochsner sued me when I left. I signed with the old non compete law. It had already been ruled invalid by the La Supreme Court.
They knew this and stilled sued me just to be dickheads. I won, but it cost me 10k in legal fees and was a huge headache for 1-2 years.
