What?!? In New Orleans? Unless you're a weirdo who is having an alter made out of flowers, you're getting fleeced. We had Bella Blooms do ours at Latrobe's for $2500 or so. Photographer was about the same.
OP: call The Columns. They're only slightly higher than your budget - far more reasonable than the tea room etc.

$25k can be done with 200 Easily. Look for a venue where you can have the ceremony and reception.
theknot.com, check it out. Prob find what you're looking for over the OT. Congrats on the engagement.

Me and my fiancé are planning one as well for 250-300 people. $15k does not cover the venue and food. We are looking about $40-50k for the church sacred heart and reception venue, Marche on the river. I know it's ridiculous but that's what you pay for a Nola wedding. Flowers will cost you about $10k+. Photographer $10k +\- Band - $5k, $120 a head for reception, rehearsal dinner is another $100 a head. Stuff adds up. Good luck with your budget.
As a grown man you are ok with spending 50k of another man's cash? I have no respect for you

Look at it from another angle:
Another man is paying for you to have a party then go back to a hotel room and bang his daughter after the party ends. Seems pretty alpha to me

Actually looking away from NOLA now. After doing price comparisons the upcharge for a NOLA wedding is ridic. The venues charge 4x what places near me do and the charge for alcohol is pretty egregious as well.
The fiancée and I talked last night and we're better off booking a venue by itself, completely customizing a menu by bringing in a caterer and buying all the alcohol ourselves and hiring bartenders. We're now on the same page in terms of saving money. Looking at a pretty neat place called the Berry Barn in Amite, LA. Still need to hear back from them about pricing and rules though.

200 people is a lot of people. You will not even notice if half aren't there. I would comb the initial list and see if each person is worth $75-$100 to come to the party.

A bump for Reverend Tony! He was amazing. Just incredible what he ended up putting together for us.

I'm getting married in Sept. We priced out several locations and NOLA was one of our top-three. Our budget was about $60k. For the amount of money we would have spent in NOLA we are having a full out wedding in Rosemary Beach and it's going to be much nicer than what we could have gotten in NOLA.

This thread makes me not want all the bells and whistles anymore when it comes to a wedding. FWIW, I'm closer to 30 (unmarried) and more practical about money now than I would have been in early/mid 20s. Even if parents open up the checkbook, I would do something super easy and stress-free...elope with a small group of very close people. One upside of getting married slightly older, you learn from your married friends mistakes who are all mostly saying "ugh I so wish we had not spent 30-60k on our wedding" now that they are a little older and more grounded. Good luck to you guys, though. To each their own.
