New Orleans - OK, I can see #3. And Big City - well, maybe "decaying former big city". But there is a lot that I love about New Orleans (along with a lot that I hate). Unique - hell yes. And it deserves a LOT of credit for this. There are damn few large cities where I'd rather be.

New Orleans isn’t a big city like Memphis, Columbus, Oklahoma City, or Witchita.

Denver is one of the most overrated cities in the country. Best thing about it is that you're close (1 hour) from cool outdoor shite. But the city blows.

That's because it's mostly just a tourism/retirement destination, a bunch of hospitals and court houses, some Section 8 housing, and a college town. The middle class jobs needed to support a vibrant population don't exist so the city just keeps chugging along in spite of that.

Well, the “city proper” used to have many more people.
Of course, due to various factors not least of which are geography (Lake Pontchartrain, Gulf of Mexico, Mississippi River), political boundaries (parish structure), and history (ingrained opposition between N.O. and the rest of the state at a Legislative level), New Orleans has been not able to grow geographically like other big cities, who just annex nearby towns.
For that reason, it’s not really very enlightening to use the population size of Orleans Parish alone when describing/comparing New Orleans to other cities .

Yea i went to Denver a coule of weeks ago. It was a cool town, but i was ready to go when time came. Lots of dudes and lots of sports teams. The mountains were great.
