Nearly one in five New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board customers have challenged their bills since the rollout of a new billing system in late 2016

I've asked their reps how I could verify their charges, since they ripped my original meter out, which was originally covered, and replaced it with a new one. They pretty much agree it can't be verified. I'll update this when I get my bill in 2019.

Just so you NOLA guys don't think you have the market cornered. In Baton Rouge:
I was overcharged for five years by getting a bill for the house next door which had a pool and sprinkler system. It was consistently around $175 a month. Because it was always that amount, I just thought water was insanely high in Baton Rouge. Discovered the meter issue when I renovated my kitchen. Now my bill is consistently $80 every month. Asked Water Board for a billing audit and their response was that I actually probably owed them money but they would let it go. I overpaid for five years (60 mos) about $100 a month so $6,000 overpaid and they say I owe them money?

I got a $5,000 water bill in Oxford, MS once in a rental home when I was in college and had one over $1,000 in Nashville.
Both were mistakes, but the difference is, I called in both cases and had someone out there within a day or 2 to investigate and resolve the issue.

You would think there would be some kind of mechanism in place to flag 4 or 5 digit water bills at residences before auto-drafting $31,000.

I'm not a developer and could write code for this in 30 minutes.

YOU could, but it would take a city contract with about 3 change orders to still get it wrong. The ineptness of that department is staggering.

I've been saying for a while that the S&WB is doing this to hide some serious financial crimes. This seems to be a very regular scenario. Also, I wonder how long it will take for that person to get their money back.
I bet she will still have to pay some type of transaction fee.

Slowly convincing mine to buy in Old Metairie or Old Gretna. That’s the only hope.

It's Louisiana.

They really are fricking up. Taking too much money at once. They should only up it 150%, and then people wouldn't notice. Sort of like Office Space.
No doubt they are robbing people. Just so happens that their software fricked up and people caught it.
And how is it that these meter readers can't look at 22 meters an hour and write something down? They are 50ft apart

Like Cantrell is gonna do a fricking thing about it besides promote diversity in the department. Should fire every worthless frick SWB employee, issue RFP for consulting firm with performance metrics and incentives built in, profit

SWB is terrible, but NOPSI can give it a run for our money.
At one time we had property on the east bank and on the west bank. Both had NOPSI accounts. But NOPSI couldn't get the west bank turned on because some one had entered it being on the east bank and they couldn't find it. My third visit to the hell place you go to apply for service, the applicant woman in front of me was crying, tears running down her cheeks in frustration.
They really didn't want to void their entry that had the bank wrong, but they had entered it from my hand written correct application. Four hours of my life that I won't get back, which is less time that renewing drivers licenses used to take.

I got a bill in June, didn't get a bill in July nor August, I called them in early late August.
I haven't got a bill since June and September starts next week, and I was wondering why?
S&WBYou didn't get a bill cause one wasn't printed.
Why wasn't a bill printed?
S&WB Cause you don't have a bill to print.
I wasn't quite sure what to say at this point, so I asked if she was sure my water wasn't going to be cut off?
S&WB Why would we do that? You don't even have a bill.
That was six years ago and I still haven't gotten a bill.
Actually it was last year and I started getting regular bill again right before Halloween. But I did enjoy not having a water bill for the summer.
