lulz

quote:

Two weeks ago, the blaring of Lanay Stockstill’s alarm wasn’t what got her out of bed. When she reached to turn off the alarm, her phone showed an overdraft notification that her bank account was $17,000 short.

“I went downstairs to my computer and I looked and it said Sewerage & Water Board tried to draft $31,000 out of my account,” Stockstill said.

The S&WB of New Orleans tried to auto-withdrawal $31,679 to be exact, for nearly 26 million gallons of water.

That’s more water than the spectacular fountains hold at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas.

googled and didn't see it posted.

Like 6 months ago I got a SW&B for like $5000.

I called and told them to frick themselves essentially. The said not to pay it, just pay the "normal amount" and they would send out an inspector.

The next month the bill is $3000. Still no inspector. So I call again. Again, send the "normal amount" and they will eventually send an inspector.

4 months after that I've been getting bills for $1000 a month, still no inspector.

when thinking about recruiting businesses from outside hte state to come to Nola, imagine some upper-middle class couple from Idaho dealing with that shite. i mean we all laugh b/c it's LA/Nola and we're a shithole, but it has to be alien to people like that

I've been saying for a while that the S&WB is doing this to hide some serious financial crimes. This seems to be a very regular scenario. Also, I wonder how long it will take for that person to get their money back.

I've also seen the reverse. Getting signed up for service and not getting a bill for over a year. They are so fricked up.

It is insane.

My wife, who is the most practical person in the world I know, inexplicably refuses to move to Jefferson Parish, where you actually get something for your tax dollars. She just won't do it.

I once didn't get a bill for 4 months. Then got it all at once. That was great.

I purchased my place in October. Haven't received a bill. I've been calling them every week and it's very documented.

In December they said they couldn't find my meter since the seller's crew covered it with sod. I got on google maps and found it in a few minutes and dug it out.

Two weeks later, on NYE, there's a crew of 10 guys collecting holiday pay in my front yard. I was at mass. They dug the meter out fricking up the sod and put a new meter in, even though I dug it out.

My councilman got involved yesterday. I received a call from someone today saying they were trying to generate a bill for me.

Let the games begin.

Is the State Attorney General the person that looks into this kind of Fraud and Racketeering?

The swb has no idea what they are doing. They have no idea of the prices that they are charging. They have no idea of what meters are actually reading. They have no idea what lines are marked as closed but are actually active. The swb is comically inept.

I recall reading an article about the SWB within the last week or two. Does anyone remember what it was about? Seems like it had something to do with their administrative personnel.

Nearly one in five New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board customers have challenged their bills since the rollout of a new billing system in late 2016 that dramatically overcharged some customers and sent others duplicate invoices, the utility’s interim chief said Tuesday. The S&WB has completed investigations into about 16,000 of the 26,120 complaints it received, and interim Executive Director Marcie Edwards pledged that about half of the 10,000 that have not yet been resolved will be wrapped up in the next six weeks.
