At a doctor's office with my son early this morning. One young lady was watching a loud video on her phone so that everyone around could hear it. An elderly lady has been yapping away on her cellphone on a call that clearly should be private but is now heard by everyone in the waiting room.

Do people not know that this is rude? Or am I just a grouch?

I can’t stand the people that are yelling at their phones on speaker while they’re holding the phone upside down to their mouth. It’s bad enough to have to listen to one side of the conversation. I really don’t need to listen to the other.

Speakerphone or FaceTime while walking around drives me totally insane.

Just a general lack of it in public

Cellphones have only made normally rude people even ruder and make it easier to spot them.

Cellphone use in public, the way the OP described, is just a vehicle for already self-absorbed rude people to show others just how much they think of themselves and disregard others.

I had the exact same the last time I was at a Dr office and said the same thing to myself that people have no self awareness at all anymore.

Spot on. And race is not a factor.

We are traveling this weekend, and as soon as our plane touched down, a guy near me immediately made a business phone call (not on speakerphone, but full voice volume).
We all had to hear how “Joey is off today, go ahead and take a look at a look at what we sent you and Mike, the numbers actually came in a little lower than we thought, but y’all are gonna be happy. Again, like I said, Joey is off today…..”

All of that from touchdown until we got to the gate.

That call could have waited until we got inside the terminal and been done away from people out of courtesy. It’s that last part that many people have no awareness .

I mean it definitely is but that's not to say there isn't a significant portion of whites who do the same stuff

I hate the obnoxiously loud and strange ring tones and alerts. Especially when someone is texting back and forth and it keeps going off. Turn the damn thing on silent!

The low-functioning, non-contributing zeros have it so easy thanks to the producers.

If the conversation is loud enough that I can hear both ends, Ill just join the conversation.

Shuts them up pretty quick.

People literally don't care about how they are seen.

Seeing people driving or sitting at a light, windows rolled down, holding their phone near their mouth and yelling at it on speaker. Not sure how it happens, but somehow my horn gets stuck on blast.

This is an awesome strategy. I’m going to start doing it.

The innocent bystanders need to stand up and start making all kinds of obnoxious noise, shout racist remarks, turn on commercials at full volume, etc., to drown out the self absorbed pricks who insist on being loud in public. Tit for tat but disrupt the facetime/podcast/recording arse as a group or do it as an individual. Hell, I may start singing the Wheels on the Bus at the top of my lungs the next time I come across these fools.
