I've bought my last two cars from small dealerships and had a great experience both times. You have to find someone reputable and easy to deal with. Big dealerships generally suck.

yeah, frick that. That's why I settle on a price, get a buyers order, and go to my bank for financing on the vehicles I purchase.

Too many horror stories of people signing papers and not reading through them. Settling on a price and interest rate only for both to be higher after the paperwork comes back from the finance guy. Also, frick all salesmen/finance guys/dealerships who try to negotiate price based on note. I'll walk out of a dealership instantly when they pull that crap.

I wasn't worried about her because she has negotiated good deals many times on buying cars. She tells them what's gonna happen, and they follow thru with it. She said something shady was going down over there though.

It wasn't that big of a deal.

I made it a lesson for my daughter.

She won't be buying a car from them, either.

Congrats, Hood. You lost two customers who like new cars for the grand total of $16.

The funny part was that the woman obviously felt sketchy about it but "she had to do it".

Guess what? The owner lives in Lafayette and runs the show in all his dealerships.

Giles is known to be very shady with his Zee Best Cars dealerships (aka frick poor people with shitty credit scheme)

Maybe he treats his customers at regular dealerships the same way

Did they try to sell you vin numbers etched on the windows for $400 to $600? Or sell an extended warranty which most of the time is not worth it?

Not sure what the OT's opinion of Carmax is, but this is why I go to Carmax. Great customer service from salaried salesmen.

Wife and MIL need to be more assertive. Just should have negotiated the cost of the vehicle without discussing financing or paying it off on the spot.

I had a decent experience at one of the local Giles dealerships. Not Z Best btw. But I knew what other dealerships in NOLA were selling the car for and held firm in negotiations.

Finance guy did try to sneak this in though. I think for $300. Told him to take it off and I'd sign the papers.

Never, ever buy a car from Carmax. Ever!

They are all priced a good 3-4K over what they are worth. If you are unsure what vehicle you want, use Carmax to test drive and find the ride that you want. Then search online for that vehicle at a dealership because dealerships negotiate on a price, Carmax doesn't. Carmax is for people with shite credit or who don't know any better. You don't believe me, find a car at Carmax, and go to a bank and ask them the loan value of that car and watch it be priced considerably higher than what it's worth.

I looked at a car there. I also let them look at my trade. They wanted $4k above book for theirs and offered me 30%of book on mine.

The internet is killing these predator dealers. The only ones they can rob are those who do not do their homework or those with bad credit.
