I thought people were boycotting due to all the players taking knees? Are there two boycotts in place for opposite reasons?

NFL is just a shitty product. Fantasy football bought it another 10 years but people are pretty much tired of that too

I agree. I'm sick of it all. I'm in 3 leagues, used to get Sunday ticket every year because I wanted to beat the shite talking fools in my league. Now I don't give any fricks about any of it. And Goodell is riding that fantasy football wave, not anything he created.

I watch the cowboys and saints, but that saints game was fricking terrible.

I alternate daily between bemoaning that football has gotten soft, with all the shitty penalties

-and-

realizing that I'm watching these guys turn their brains into doo-doo for my enjoyment.

The NFL product has slowly been turning to shite the last few years. That's why. Not some boycott people are doing

You are just seeing a generational and societal shift from football. I am 44 so right in the middle of gen-x. As I've aged, I still enjoy it but I don't go batshit like years ago.

What if we were the last generation that loves football like we do/did? Football will not die, but it go so big that bubble broke or the wave crested. However you want to say it, but it happened.

So many examples to cite. The cost of going to games make it unreasonable for most fans. Politics. Concussions. Boycott (I spoke to a black co worker who actually boycotted. It's work so I did not press or debate). Mobile devices and streaming taking away from eyes on the TV at times traditional ratings are gathered?

Football will always be around. It's just gonna have to give up more space at the trough.

Seems like it. In my previous post I was talking about the ultra patriotic white guy who doesn't really like football "boycotting" making him a real American.

The surprising thing to me about the NFL's ratings drop in 2016 was a pretty large number of those not watching cited the Kaepernick protest as a reason. I didn't think his protest made sense - but it wasn't going to alter my viewing habits.

I do understand political fatigue in 2017 though. I had been a religious watcher of national news but the every day Trump coverage might be worse than the Lewinski stuff in the 90s. There are other things to talk about at some point. And I do find myself seeking out entertainment with no political overtones.

I'm sure it absolutely nothing to do with the NFL almost turning the came to flag football. The defense has been taking out of the game all together and all the excitement of a big hit gets down played because you can't be sure if they are going to throw a flag or not. Sure it's all Kapernicus though. I can barely tune into a game with out seeing that tattooed piece of trash kneel for my anthem.

NFL rating have been down for a while now because people are DISGUSTED with kaepernick and because they don't like him.

To try and spin it as being a a downturn in rating which means people support him is pretty stupid. But what do you expect from idiots like this anyway.

Trying to force any NFL team to take kepernick is just damn silly. Whatver talent he has is vastly overshadowed by his issues, attitude and the disruption his divisive presence brings. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Kaepernick is a not even a relevant person anymore and he only has himself and his stupid radical gf to blame for that.

I really think people are giving Kaepernick too much credit here.

It's a convenient excuse for the NFL, but I think the much bigger reason is that the product on he field just is t as good as it used to be.

I don't care at all about Kaepernick or any other protests. I quit watching the NFL because the games by and large suck.

If the games were better I'd watch.

When I get home from 12 hours of work on a Monday evening, I just want to open a cold beer, watch some football, and turn off my brain for a couple of hours before I go to sleep and do it all again Tuesday.

Instead, a bunch of millionaires who never finished college have decided that these two hours are the perfect time to subject me to a complex and divisive political debate about perceived racism.

No thanks. My down time is my time and I'll be damned if I'm going to watch football that resembles garbage cable news political punditry from Fox and CNN.

I think it has to do with several things:
Lack of veterans in the league diminishing skill in favor of youth
Lack of practices for said youth with the new non contact rules and maximum hours on the practice field
Rules changes that greatly favor the offense in the name of safety, in particular the rules surrounding the QB's
