My daughter no pics is 24 and just bought a house with her husband in Houston, in a pretty nice area. They are far from rich, she’s a respiratory therapist and he does HVAC. I mean they do middle class over there at best and had no problems. Most if not all of their friends, some younger, have easily bought houses or rent in big cities

Homeownership feels unattainable — more than a third of Gen Z respondents in one survey said it’s something they think they’ll never be able to achieve. According to the National Association of Realtors, last year, the typical first-time homeowner was 36 years old, a record high.

i'm all about crapping on the Gen Z and Millenials that bitch about this stuff, but i was at a conference recently and was talking with a few work peers. my boss is mid 60s, i'm 40, other rep is mid 40s, and his inside sales rep is a 25 or 26 year old woman.

the sales rep started giving the 25 yo a hard time about finally buying a house and she said she simply can't afford anything. i said "well move outside of Austin." She said, i'm trying to move to Kyle, Buda, or anything within 30 miles and there's nothing for less than $300k."

i called bullshite and pulled up realtor.com and she was right. a bunch of starter homes that would have been $120k when i was buying a house 10-20 years ago were all 300-500k. there were a few homes right under it at $290k but 1000 sq feet. Kyle and Buda are fine, but it's not like they're paying for living in amazing suburbs or anything.

it's a legit complaint for young homeowners.

Buda < $300k
Kyle < $300k

This jealousy and feeling of having to own a home seems overblown or at least a new phenomenon.

When I was in my 20s I didn’t want, nor was I equipped to deal with home ownership. Mobility was important and living in a cool area/apartment. Same for my friends but we were Gen x slackers I guess.

Owning a house before getting married/having kids doesn't appeal to me

Regardless of how pathetic some may be, the fact that housing prices are high and it's hard for younger workers to afford housing is true. That being said, they can spin it to make it seem like the poor kids can't live their dream or they can speak of the real issue which is the poor economy given to us from our lovely government.

There are more jobs open in this country than there are applicants. Want your own place, go get a fricking job and work 50 hours a week and I don’t mean a “writer, rapper or paraprofessional (whatever the frick that is).

They probably went to schools that were about indoctrination rather than education and they don’t have the intelligence or skills for those jobs, much less any ambition other than “rapping/writing” on the taxpayers dime.

Mrs. Wilson, you must get a different job to support your rap career. Para's barely make minimum wage. Or possibly switch to a different dream

I’m middle Gen X and my boys are 3-4. I pray somehow our family avoids the social contagions of the day. Every age and generation has them. But Swatch Watches, pegged 501s and Tears for Fears seem so delightfully innocent compared to the tatted-up, gender-retarded filth walking the streets today.
