There doesn't have to be a wound. Mucus membranes etc can serve as an opening too.
I guess you’re right, it has to be exposed tissue like the velvet or from an open wound. I guess the mucus membrane would suffice, although it seems less likely that a fly would/could land and lay their eggs in one. The picture on that deer was most likely through the tick wound.

We eradicated screwworm in the 60s and 70s, we can do it again.
This is a nonstarter of a story.

Texas already issued a hold order on all movements.
Incorrect.
Texas placed a moratorium on movement within a 20-kilometer quarantine zone. That's a 12-4 mile perimeter from the break out zone in La Pryor, Texas.
Considering the size of the state of Texas, the quarantine zone is a relatively small area.

You’re right. Nothings changed since then, so let’s just do what we did then, eh?
We could, or it could be here for a couple years before we do it. Beef prices have already risen due to the border closure, so I’m not entirely sure it’s a non story.

Don’t panic and:
Probably the packers justifying additional price increases.

DOGE cut funding and staff that monitors bird flu and screwworm, and USAID worked to stop the spread of NWS up from Central America. Probably a coincidence though.
Holy retard

Those things have been here for a long, long time but were eradicated. I saw plenty of them in Alabama back in the 60's.

You’re right. They eradicated it because it was a nonstarter of a story.

Forbes has this about the DOGE connection:
The return of screwworm comes after the Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency, launched by the Trump administration, last year cut funding for a project dedicated to monitoring and containing New World screwworm in Central America.
The funding was axed days before the U.S. ended a temporary suspension of cattle imports from Mexico, meaning livestock was allowed to cross the border without any of the monitoring previously funded by the U.S. Agency of International Development (USAID).
Agriculture officials and cattle industry leaders raised alarm about the cuts at the time and, for the last several months, pleaded with the government to step in as they monitored screwworm infections moving north through Mexico—but they were ignored, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller told NBC News.
Crucial Quote
“Instead of using every available tool, USDA moved too slowly and relied solely on a partial solution that takes years to fully implement,” Miller said, adding a plea for President Donald Trump to “throw every available federal resource at this threat before it becomes a full-blown agricultural disaster.”

There is an injectable form now that has emergency use authorization.

Required vet Rx before a recent emergency use authorization made it over the counter.
Can't be used in female dairy cattle producing milk for humans or veal. Must stop 35 days before slaughter of beef.
To help reduce the risk of parasites developing resistance and preserve the long-term effectiveness, the FDA encourages ranchers to use Ivomec only when medically necessary.

Yes and I think doramectin is approved as well, but may want to double check.

Secretary Scott Bessent was on Fox News claiming that immigrants smuggled diseased cows across the border and that illegals and Biden are to blame for beef prices.
