And then there is the idea of "why learn that, if I need to know I will just google it".

Is that not learning?

I guess so, but you are not forced to remember it.

Is it really learning if you do not absorb the information?

I couldn't pass 80% of the tests I took in college right now if I had a gun to my head. Might even be higher than that

I was forced to remember it

"Thinking deeply" about something has been replaced with snippets and highlights. Our brains are dying because of it.

Does it? OP’s post is literally a solid block of text.

Yes. It really does. It’s all of 30 seconds of reading, but we as a society are so dead set on being told the cliff notes and summary instead of digging through the data ourselves and coming to our own conclusion.

Technology has made us too lazy to think critically and analyze what we read and see.

Okay. But you at least put in the work to learn the information short term right? At least you were exercising your brain.

You’re thinking of knowledge as knowing x=1

That isn’t knowledge. That’s regurgitation.

Knowledge is knowing WHY x=1

You gained the knowledge of being able to think critically and derive an answer depending on what is infront you.

One word answer

Welfare

No the correct answer is social media and how it/forums/the internet has reduced our attention spans to basically nothing. We can't read and digest anything over a couple of sentences. As a result our though process only goes as deep as a headline.

I'd start by doing some real tests on chemicals in water and processed foods.

Yeah, I don't know if Welfare is making people dumber. Maybe he is saying they are given money so they don't have to learn, but it's not like they just started welfare 10-15 years ago.

a lot of these tests are on toddlers

the real answer is likely a mix of nutritional deficiencies, higher IQ people not breeding as much, and a "correction" of sorts after the industrial revolution, which provided our brains with more stimulation than ever before

I think SECRANT and Twitter may be direct causes.
